Radar Detector Harness

Does anyone have any experience with the harness from gen5? I purchased it a couple weeks ago and was going to install it last weekend, and it seems to be excessively long. I have read other forums about tapping into another wire or running a wire along the apillar from the fuses. I just thought that the Gen5 one would be easier and more of a plug and play.

I even watched the video for a 6th gen and tore my overhead console apart thinking it would be the same, but unfortunately it is not. So I am stuck thinking if I should just do the tap, or cut and re-solder this one to make it shorter and work.

I haven’t bought the harness yet from Gen 5 DIY but was thinking of buying one myself....so I’d also like to know the answer. I have a Valentine that I’d like to start using again in the SS.

Update:

I just ended up tucking everything up in the headliner. I think it was a bit easier having the overhead console taken off as I was able to see where I wanted the plug and the excessively long cable. I don't like it, even though you can't see it and no one will ever know lol. In the future I will probably take it back out and cut and solder everything to know that it is the way I like it.
