ZL1 Instrument Cluster
Hey guys,
Am in the market of picking up a gauge cluster from a ZL1 this weekend. Just wanting to make sure that it would work correctly. I called my dealership and they said they can do the reprogramming and install. I asked if there would be any problems and the guy said he is not sure, that whatever I bring to them, they will put it in and program it but if it doesn't work than it is on me. He just told me not to install it and then drive it (which I have read on forums here not to do) but didn't give me much confidence on going with it. I know Gen5Diy does reprogramming but my dealership was pretty cheap in comparison to do it so that is why I am wanting to get it done from them. Thanks guys. |

What's the benefit of going with the ZL1 cluster? I ask because I have no idea if there is a difference from the SS/1LE cluster.

It has the color DIC and 200mph. Not a whole lot to benefit but just a simple upgrade I would like since the place I am getting the cluster from is giving me a good deal
I really just would like the color DIC since I do not have that option and the upgrades I have seen out there are around $700 for it |

Ok, now I get it.
Yeah, I would love the color DIC also. Seems weird to have a monochrome display in a 2010 car (Mine). But that is also around the time LCD/LED panels started seriously dropping in price. So I can understand the cost savings or lack of inexpensive technology at the time for GM. You would think the 1LE would have it, regardless of 1SS/2SS trim, especially on a 2015 model.

Yeah that is what you would think too. I didn't even know it was an option until I started seeing a bunch of posts on here with people that had them. So then I started to search for alternatives and I have seen a few posts on here that people do it with ZL1 clusters, but really just looking for more of a confirmation before I get it lol

This is best picture I could find with the "200mph" and you can see the DIC is color with the "0" being almost silver

Yeah that is what I have read. The only thing to be concerned is once you install it, you can not run the vehicle. So basically it needs to be installed wherever someone can reprogram it. Or send it to like I said, Gen5diy and they can do it and send it back, or I suppose install it and get it towed to the dealer.
I will for sure let you know and post pics |

I found a cluster for 150. Then the dealer said they would reprogram for $130 or install and reprogram for $230. I am calling around at my local speed shops though to see if they can do it any less or I might just install and tow it down for a reprogram

Wow. That's not bad at all.
If that works out for you around those prices, PLEASE let us know. My 2010 is also missing a lot of the DIC features of the newer model years, such as instant mpg, oil temp, etc. I wonder if that stuff would work as well if programmed. Although I could imagine an updated/upgraded BCM might be a requirement for the older models.
