Track-day Lifespan of Pirelli DH?
I have a nice set of Pirelli DH take-offs that have maybe 1-2 sessions on them, they seem to have over 90% tread remaining, and my durometer reading showing them in excellent shape.
Can anyone tell me how long DH slicks like these last in terms of track days with an average of 3-4 15 minute sessions per day? I run with the advanced group and lap times often in the top 10, so I run them on the harder end of the spectrum, camber is -3 front/-2 rear. Tracks like Auto Club Speedway, Willow Springs and Buttonwillow. Thanks! |

That will be almost impossible to say... I've had take-offs last me 1 session, and I've had a set go 5-6 sessions.

I'll get about 6-7 heat cycles out of the front 3r's, double that for the rears. You just never know the history of the take-offs. And that was the issue I had with them. I had one set I threw away after one session on track. I had another last 2-3 sessions, and another maybe 5 sessions. Given that I generally run with groups that do 6-20 minutes sessions, I have never had a set of take-offs last me an entire day.

Interesting, I was thinking the take offs would be better than the 3Rs since they are like $125 each with 3/4 tread

A lot of it depends upon the track surface texture and driving style. I am relatively easy on tires compared to some people. I can get 5-6 track days out of a 3R in front and more from the rears. DH take offs are a bit of a crap shoot as sometimes they are soft compound or medium compound. For the price they are great and I'm going to run them next season as my brother-in-law has had great success using them with his M3.
