New 10 speed owner

Finally picked my 2ss up on Monday after waiting 7 months. I absolutely love the car except for this 10 speed. Maybe I had my hopes set too high but I find it quite clunky at times and almost slippy at times. Seems to be 3-4 shift and 4-5 shift at certain throttles it almost feels like the rpms dropped like it shifted and then you feel it slip a shift. At first I thought maybe it was just shifting quickly through gears twice but I check to see which gear it was in after feeling this. The car has 515 miles on it as of today. I know these are “learning” transmissions but I don’t know how long the learning procedure takes or if there is a way to simply relearn? I’m really hoping this highly praised transmission isn’t giving me any issues. Get a decent clunk coming to stops sometimes too. Is this just the nature of the 10L80 or am I having some issues here?

Did you try the different modes? They seem to provide different characteristic in the way it shifts.

The slips you are referring to is likely the torque converter locking and doing its thing keep things smooth and such.

Drive it hard, drive it easy in your most used modes touring and sport. Let it learn your driving. Let it shift at redline in auto mode WOT 2-3, 3-4 often if you dare. Have V4 mode shut off, that is felt sometimes as a shift when it activates also when it is kicked out by throttle pressure. The Range device has been reported here by forum members on the 20 and 21 cars to work perfectly if you do not want to tune it out. I have 9500 miles on my 2021 A10 LT1 and yes sometimes I feel what feels like a double shift in 3-4, 4-5 sometimes and could be described has a slippery shift or delayed a bit. The more miles the better the trans felt and after having my V4 mode turned off , the A10 driving experience is very, very good.

It's the torque converter locking after a shift. Annoying as hell I know...that's why I tune GM transmissions to not lock the converter part throttle until final OD gear at hwy speed such as 60mph. The caveat is you give up a little fuel mileage for much improved driving and shifting characteristics from the transmission.

The A10 is an awesome trans, but another TCM and a bit of tuning can help it.

Thanks guys. I’m the kind of person who notices everything with my car (ocd) so I guess I’m just hypersensitive and feeling things most wouldn’t. The converter locking is exactly what it seems like I’m feeling which is definitely weird. Just hit the 500 miles so I’ll change the oil and drive it a little harder and see how she feels. I’ve also heard about the range module but have heard a good few people say it made their car feel sluggish for some reason and range themselves told me it’s not compatible with any 10 speed car, but I know some 19+ have used it. Not gonna tune yet because of warranty so I guess I’ll learn to live with it for now! Thanks again

Just cannot do that on a 2020 and up correct?

Should be able to now with a T87 TCM swap from HHP.

Well, that is certainly good to know, I thank you for that. Better driveability and better shifting characteristics are certainly a win win, is there any slight side benefits in 1/4 mile 60ft times or slightly better ETs?

2-3 tenth reduction in 1/4mi ET tuned properly.

Starting to think what I’m feeling isn’t normal. Gonna try to get a video next time I drive it but at part throttle on shifts it seems to shift and then kind of roll another shift or something. I can feel it sort of push the car forward. Is this really the converter locking?

Yep, I feel the same thing. It’s a bit less noticeable with the Range Device… I’m at 570 miles. I’m pretty sure it I’ll mostly work itself out with more miles, my ZL1 did. Does your tranny have a subtle whine at low speeds (less than 30mph) or at idle with the windows down?

Yes, I feel the same thing, I believe its only 2-3 shift and maybe 3-4 shift after that I do not feel anything other than a normal shift and I have 10k miles on the car that I bought new.

My 10 speed has a subtle whine in all the lower gears during very light throttle till 7th gear which is 1 to 1. It is very subtle and cannot be heard unless the windows are up, fan on low, and no radio and no one talking.
