FIC +30 Injectors -> Now XDI +65's

Today I finished up tuning my brothers C7Z M7. It's a Heads/Cam 11.1 compression LT4 with Maggie 2300. Catless headers and Cordes 5" intake.

Fuel system mods:

FIC +30 Injectors
LPE HPFP
Stock low side with JMS

Currently running E61

I am commanding 2500psi rail pressure & .82 Lambda AFR. 20-21 degrees of timing.

@ 13.5psi, Injector pulse widths are only 5.4ms, rail pressure 2400psi, low side does taper down to 50psi @ 6800rpm.

I was surprised how lowering the rail pressure from 2900 to 2400 took some strain off the low side being it would only tolerate E40 before. This did increase the Injector pulse widths from 5.0 to 5.4ms but that is still plenty of headroom.

He is going to swap in the ZR1 low side pump and we are going to try for E70.

Just wanted to share this info for those looking at fueling options. These FIC's are super easy to tune and the car drives no different then it did with the factory stuff.

Not cheap by any means but if you are looking at sticking with strictly DI for fueling then these are worth looking at for sure.

I'd say thats going to make some great power with the little Maggie and you tuning.

Great info! My brother is running the XDI +60 injectors and that same premise was promised by XDI (bigger injectors can run lower pressure, allowing more headroom). Unfortunately, it didn’t really work that way. When the high pressure was dropped to allow more HPFP headroom, power dropped off with it. They really wanted the 2900 psi which the LT4 HPFP with cam couldn’t do.

That is odd. I wonder why power would drop if the injectors could still deliver the needed fuel albeit at a higher pulse width? I wouldn't think that should matter if they are in range?

Also note the LPE Big Bore V.2 DI pump was actually holding fine at 2900psi, I lowered it to take load off the low side. So maybe that is the difference?

The FIC 30% injectors are a nice alternative to running a port injection set up. With the pricing coming down a bit (hit us up) we can make them more affordable then port injection for sure. They do tune easy. The 60% are kind of overkill unless you run the Katech belt driven high side pump. If you can't feed them they can't help much.

Don't mean to hijack, but since injector pulse width was mentioned. Mine was always 5.x, but now that the fuel system is all LT4 stuff, the datalogs show 3.8-3.9 at WOT. what does this mean? Am I leaving HP on the table?

Thanks

No, it means your fueling is keeping up no problem. You generally want injector PW under 6.0 as you only have a narrow window of timeframe to inject the fuel. Time to add some boost my friend!

I did. We went from a 3.9 to 3.7 pulley. So I have room for a 3.5 huh? Good to know. Thank you!!

King LT1, your low side needs more work to take full advantage of the LPE Pump and 30% injectors... Here is an emails from LPE addressing fuel for the big bore pump.

you need a return style no ZR1 pump, dsx, SKG will feed over 80 psi, I asked Dave Steck about that but it will never happen.

Subject: RE: few questions?

Jack needs more low side. For that kind of boost level on E85 he needs MINIMUM 85psi….. recommended 100+
His high side system has zero issues.

The rails remain the same and we have tried a few different options with the check valve. But we normally run a hi flow check valve in there. Our low side is a ½ feed stainless line with the factory feed line as the return.

This is what Christian said back after he could review your log file.

At what point do you upgrade from the factory lt4 High side to the FIC +30 Injectors and/or LPE HPFP?

The injector pulse width getting up toward 6.0 ms and/or rail pressure drop? Im guessing both are related and impact each other. Teach me guys.

Min of 85psi low side... wow

Correct. Watch all of it!

Low side commanded vs actual
High side commanded vs actual
Injector PW

In that order. Any of those 3 can trip you up. But if one goes, it usually will affect the rest. For example, if low side doesn’t keep up, it will cause high side to drop and injector PW to widen. But the reality was, it was just the low side not keeping up. Hope that makes sense.
