In "drive" it is a combination of both. In "manual" it is speed only if you set it up to shift automatically. But remember, that is command to shift.. There is always a delay that has to be accounted for.

Correct, as long as it remains stock or, for a custom T87A application, someone doesn't eff up the tune, of course.

If I recall, TOURING is NORMAL and SPORT/TRACK are Pattern B. Pattern A is TUTD.

The trans shifts by speed, not RPM.

Very interesting read. I would have never guessed that they’d set shift points based on speed instead of RPMs.

BTW that must be fun shifting from 9th to 10th at 254 mph!

There is a setting in the TCM for shift RPMs, too, so I'd be cautious about that claim.

Nope. It uses both for WOT upshifting. It will look at speed, then RPM, in that order.

shift points

Well it may be set up to shift at a certain speed in the TCM but I can confirm that in AUTOMATIC MODE in either TRACK or SPORT mode it shifts at 6500.

What is interesting is that my WIFE's SUPRA is sports mode ALSO shifts at 6500 RPM.

Play with it at the track when you have traction, then let me know what you think...

If you satisfy the speed, then when you hit 6500 RPM it will shift. MPH first, then RPM. You need to satisfy both conditions and I have plenty of time on my laptop with HP Tuners to verify that. Simply datalog a run and you can watch in on the replay of the datalog. You’ll see it showing the next gear up well in advance of the actual shift… because it’s holding it waiting for the RPM to catch up.

Correct. We’ve moved to manual mode (with auto shift configured), which is speed only, and that has significantly improved the quality of the shifts, as well the level of control we have in adjusting shift points at ~1,300 RWHP.

Agreed, I’m doing the same thing at the strip. TUTD mode let’s me launch in 2nd gear but still have full auto upshifts. Just a bit less power than you.
