Need Help picking , BF/Nitto or Firestone Thanks
Hi, on my 2SS I run ZL1 rims 285/35R20 front and 305/35R20 Rear
I currently have Good Year Supercar F1 G2, I am looking at the following three, Firehawk Indy 500 BF Goodrich Comp Nitto NT 555G2 I am looking for a good all around tire, I live in the country so we have a lot of nice driving roads, I also do go to the track from time to time but for fun, If I get back into the track days I'll get a set of dedicated wheels. So I am looking more of a Hi Performance street tire at this time. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...oModClar=Coupe https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...oModClar=Coupe And https://www.summitracing.com/parts/nit-211420 https://www.summitracing.com/parts/nit-211440 |

Of those three I'd choose the 500, I see little to no talk on this board about the BFG, the 555G2 get's some talk but not as much as others.

That Nitto is a much lower-tier tire than either of the other two, in terms of both quality and performance. The Indy500 gets a lot of love. BFG is a subsidiary of Michelin and the gForce Sport COMP-2 is a very solid summer high-performance tire. The Indy500 is a little faster in the dry, and neither is great in wet conditions.
Sticking with the summer performance category, the two recommendations that I think are the best by far are the Continental ExtremeContact Sport and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. Both are very, very fast in the dry, and they are so good in the wet that many use them as rain tires in street-tire competition classes. They probably have the best grip in cool conditions, too. Both are very high quality. The Continental is significantly cheaper, while the Michelin might be a tad faster...maybe. You cannot possibly go wrong with either one of these, and both are significantly better than the Indy 500 and BFG COMP-2.

PS4S or ECS.
500 if you really need to save money, or the Yokohama Advan APEX seems like a good tire. The Comp-2 is close to a decade old at this point and Nitto is just trash.

The BF Goodrich was listed on tire rack as a Winter tire as well, I have zero interest in a Winter type tire. I'll look into the other ones.

Also, I didn't notice before that you were talking about 35-series tires. I'm going to strongly encourage to go with 285/30/20 and 305/30/20 sizes instead. These will fit and perform better. These are the sizes for the stock SS 1LE and ZL1 (non-1LE). The Conti ECS, Michelin PS4S, and Yokohama Apex V601 come in those sizes. I've never driven the Apex, but it's significantly slower than the PS4S in the dry and a shit-ton slower in the wet in Tire Rack's testing. It does not appear to be in the same performance league as the Conti or Michelin.

I'd add the General Gmax RS to that list. Put a set on my 5th generation and could not be happier

Currently on the Firestone's. Tire is great in weather over 50 degrees. Plenty grip and communicates well when cornering. Breakaway is gradual. Good tire on track as well.
But you are in New York. I live in Staten Island when I'm not deployed. Be cautious when you have the mix of anything wet and temps less than 50 degrees. The SS is not heavy in the back and will come around on you faster than you think if you're being a hooligan in bad weather. Maybe the Auto's do better with traction control on but my M6 is like a happy dog playing in puddles. She will step out.

Yes, which is the point. Taller tires are not better for performance or fitment. The 285/35 is 27.9" tall and the 305/35 is 28.4" tall - significantly taller than any OE tire GM put on any version of the Camaro. The 30 series are the OE sizes for the SS 1LE, and they are 26.8" and 27.2" tall. This is better for performance. In fact, the ZL1 1LE comes with 19" wheels and tires that are only 26.3" and 26.7" tall.
As to the Generals, again, you can look at all the summer performance true-street tires, but the two fastest in the wet or dry, hot or cool are the Michelin PS4S and Continental EC Sport. I don't see any reason to look at anything else, unless you want to drive in winter conditions, in which case you need an all-season performance tire.

Personal experience - the Nitto is shit for traction in a straight line!! I don't know about the twisties.

It's shit for traction in all directions. It's also not great quality, being kind of infamous for developing flat spots if you leave the car parked in one spot for more than a day or two.

The car is only driven in decent weather , It may see some 50 Deg temps in late fall but not much colder then that. I'll look into the 30 series. I am not against the Michelin PS4S and Continental EC Sport, Just looking for other options as well.
