500 Mile Oil Change

Just got done doing a 500 mile oil change because I'm paranoid like that. 10Qts Mobil 1 Extended Perf 5W-30 and PF64 filter.

I don't think it's paranoid. I found a noticeable difference between the color of the oil on the dipstick the night I drove off the lot vs. my 500 mile oil change last week. It darkened noticeably in those several days, though it may not have been as dark as in your photo.

It makes good sense. There's going to be assembly lubes and possibly even some metal from the machining process (hopefully not) in with that factory fill of oil.

I am trying to find documentation to support the 1500 mile change. I filled with Mobil1 at 500, am approaching 1500, have zero discoloration, have lost zero oil, and the DIC says I have 91% oil life remaining. I'll do it if I must, but it's kind of hard to see a strong NEED for it right now.

Did mine at 500 and it was nasty, doing another change at 1500 and sending it out to get tested

I'm definitely glad I did it after seeing the color of the oil at 500.

It's not paranoid to change at 500, it's normal and recommended. Don't neglect your diff. I'd change that at 500 too.

True! I was going to do the oil again at 1500 as well as the diff. Should I instead do it at 500 then again at 1500?

I'd change both Oil and Diff at 500 and 1500 miles. So yes.

I did oil at 1k and diff today at 2k and both were very dark. I have an average 18mpg since mile 17 so I don't exactly beat it up either.

I also did mine at 500 miles. Mine just turned 1500 so break in is complete and I will change it again soon then go to every 3000 miles. That’s always how I change the oil in all my new cars I buy.
