Justification to pay a premium on catch cans

Opening a can of worms...well aware, but had to raise this one in the air.

After researching I found that there is a huge price difference between what we would call "Premium Branded" cans, I.E. Mishimoto, Elite, MM, Moroso, Etc.
that all cost north of $150 MSRP and "No Names", which in many cases seem to be built quite decently, which cost less than $40.

What is your view on this issue and what was your experience when using
"No names" Vs. "Premiums"?

Do you think that it is really justified to pay 3 to 6 times as much more?
What is the dramatic difference (if at all) between the cans?

not sure about all that, but in my experience, I've had mishimoto which was good for N/A applications, once I went boosted I went with the Elite, and I can see the difference in quality. granted, they serve the same function, but the engineering behind them is where they shine. yes will a 40.00 can work, but to some degree you get what you pay for.

I pretty sure my EBay catch can was about $40 bucks. I'm am sure that in the old days there were literally cans. for ahem free. Of course in the really bad old days, they were "road pipes" let the draft under the car wiff the vapors away.

Heck I should design an at speed crankcase vent venturi setup under the car and let road speed suck (negative pressure) suck the can into a vacuum situation.

My camaro has a custom catch tank ( its huge ) with -10 from each valve cover and -6 from the valley cover. Tuner said he likes to let these FI motors breathe as much as possible.

My truck has the RX 4 inch Dual Valve Monster Catch Can ( $400 ). Bolt in, direct fitment, catches an insane amount of vapor, oil, water...

I like the nicer/more expensive vehicle specific cans because they come with the oem style fittings and adapters, bolt into good locations, look great and perform amazingly.

These catch cans are intriguing. Couldn't you also just vent to air and not worry about it?

I bought a UPR last year for my 2014 Silverado. Super nice kit. Bolt on in 10 mins, braided hose, no issues. This time I experimented and used this can. Had to spend ~$20-30 worth of metal and hardware to install. Still cheaper and it was a nice product. Plus this can looks very similar to the UPR, just not as big.

My valley is vented (stock pcv location) and my oil fill is vented. The factory has its own catch can and that center pipe is vented on mine, it goes to the stock air box or intake bellows (don't have that).

Thanks for all the input so far.
This is exactly the reason for me trying to understand the value of paying 2-3 times as much for the "premium brands", than for the following products, which look absolutely legit to me:

I remember when Mishimoto was a budget brand back in my Mustang days. It's a shock to me now to see them mentioned first under "premium brands" and along with Moroso and MM. LOL!! My how times have changed.

I once even got ridiculed on a Mustang forum for buying Mishimoto. LOL!!

The Elite for the LT4 includes a PCV valve replacement fitting and Gen6 specific mounting bracket gust add to the value to in part justify the cost.

I think you are just looking at the can itself, it is the AN fittings, hardware, Black anodizing, high quality hose and mounting solutions that drive the price up, I can take a 50.00 catch can and make it a 350.00 catch can pretty easy with the above parts.

You also have to consider gaining access to the PCV valve itself, where you may need a 75.00 adapter just so you can install a catch can.

We sell a ton of Moroso Billet aluminum Catch can, with stainless mounting brackets and fuel hose at 159.00 if you don't mind the brass fittings they work great.

Start adding all the pretty parts and that price can easily double or triple.

I am not advocating one way or another in regards to catch cans, but starting a thread to complain about it is a bit thoughtless

I mean - you could come up with your own catch can business concept and run your business & marketing any way that you want, or choose not to use one at all.

I think if the Elite worked off a vacuum pump belt or electric pump like real big boy racers used it would stand out more than others and they would have an argument against Mighty Mouse won.. Its only a 1200 to 1500 setup..

Have a PCV valve weather in the diverter/plug or just before the can and add a can it works just like a water separator ya? The oil and gases travels out the hose via the spot on the valley cover or big builds like mine with additional fittings on the valve covers to the can the Heavy oil falls to the bottom and the gasses go back to the motor or some even vented perhaps either way most of the oil is left in the can and semi clean gasses go back into the motor via a fitting in the CAI elbow!
