The problem with this world is stupidity.
I'm not saying there should be penalties for stupidity,

You're pretty close.. I guessed that he tried to squeeze a few more HP and the following happened:

1. Shop didn't do the install correctly, didn't want to take responsibility and told the OP it's a defective part from GM, go to GM for resolution.

Either way, shop is not taking responsibility and told the OP go to GM.

This shop is about 40 mins away from me.. haven't heard much about them but knew of them.

It's a GRAY area for both side... Sucks that it happened.. well, whatever happened!
