Track insurance rates have certainly gone up

With the pandemic I haven't road coursed for about 2 years, was getting a quote through RLI for a one day event, coverage for 70K + 18K in mods and it was about $750, seems a lot higher than before. Ugh. Pay to play is right.

Was curious if others are paying as much, have seen better rates, or have some other strategy for how much they cover.

I usually used RLI back when I would get track insurance (2017-2019) and I usually did $30-35k agreed value and it would be like $200-250 depending on the track. So $750 for $88k agreed value doesn't sound too terrible, especially depending on the track.

My buddy who has been doing HPDE for 20+ years is also an insurance broker. He struck a deal with one of the car insurance companies to provide year round track insurance. I have 3 cars on the policy, one with track insurance (the ZLE). My cost went up a little over $1k/year, but doing at least 2-3 track events per year offsets that cost.

My car insurance is through Cincinnati Financial. I had never heard of them before I got my current policy with track insurance. And I don't know what states they're offered in, but if anyone is interested I'd be happy to ask my buddy if he can continue offering that type of policy to others. At the HPDE events I've been to, a good portion of the folks there have their car insurance policies through him.

Paying 1% of the value of a car for one day of insurance seems mighty steep. However, there must be a lot of overhead to issue single-day track policies, and claims administration may be more costly than mass-market auto policies.
Things usually get cheaper by volume, so I would expect that if the cost is $200-250 for a $30-35k car, it should be less than $750 for an $88k car.
I have been self-insuring on my car that only cost $28k new, with the understanding that if I wreck it, I will probably be out of the game for a year or so, until I muster the finances to buy a replacement.

Hagerty quote for my upcoming TrackNight in America event at Nashville Superspeedway for $70k coverage (2022 ZL1) less 10% deductible was $349. $498 if it WAS NOT a TrackNight in America event, which they sponsor.

This is the cheapest option I found if you do 2 day events: https://ontrackinsurance.com/

Their price is the same for 1 or 2 day events and you can get a percentage discount by buying policies for 3+ or 6+ events for the year together instead of buying them individually. If you do a ton of track days there are unlimited annual policies available too from this company and from OpenTrack.

I just ran the numbers for my next event.

On Track was the lowest, follow by Lockton and then RLI.

I lower my cost by not doing total replacement coverage and not listing mods separately

I’ve been using ontrackinsurance for a while. They have the cheapest rates, though none are cheap. I just do stated value of what my payoff on the car is. Imho the deductible is 10% of the stated value, so a lower amount is better (less out of pocket).
