CAN'T control LIGHTS due to canadian regulations.. can someone help ?

i don't know if this spec is new. i'm not in Canada but i purchased my car and shipped it all the way from there. I noticed a thing that American cars don't do.
which is when engine is on.. u can't control ur lights status as long as ur not in (PARK) gear.
So when i'm running my car around sunset and the auto sensor indicates no sun.
As u know the DRL will shut and the regular lights will turn on but i can't choose whether to just drive with full lights or not, and i can't even turn off the lights if i want to.
-
same happens at sunrise.. even when DRL is on i can't turn it off.
i'd appreciate a help. I'm sure there is a solution for this which i don't know given that this spec is not equipped in our local cars here nor american ones.

It is possible to turn off "Automatic Lighting Control", which I believe is your issue.
The way to turn it off, is to rotate the circular switch on the left side steering wheel lever clockwise.
When you do it, you should see in the center of the instrument panel the message:
"Automatic Lighting Off".
If you would like to turn it on again, then simply rotate this same switch again and you will see the message:
"Automatic Lighting On"
I hope that this helps.

I also suggest that you read through the user manual, in order to learn many other features.
Good Luck

My truck is from Quebec imported to NY, you can’t turn the DRL off in gear.

I believe on the Canadian vehicles you CANNOT disable DRL....

I am in Canada, Daytime Running Lights (DRL's) are mandatory here, so you will always have some lights on. Sorry.

thnx but those are basics. I can’t imagine anyone missing out on those
What u said does not apply on the CANADIAN cars and mostly the recent models.

Once engine is on and gear on drive.. u cant control the lights either scrolling or whatever
There has to be a solution.

A number of years back, my father-in-law imported a US Cadillac into Canada. Before it could pass inspection, we had to get the Canadian GM dealer to install a device to enable the DRL. There must be a way to defeat it, just not sure. A dealer in your country may be able to help, or get some documentation showing how it's installed.

First question is why.
Second question is try the DRL fuse?

OK, just thought that this would be worth trying before going into more drastic measures of defeating the DLRs (I.E. pull the fuse, external switch, Etc.)
