I want Zl1. I want more speed!!!

I currently have my 2016 2SS which is very fast of course, but I'm used to it by now and it doesn't feel as fast anymore. I want a Zl1!!! When will the market for them start dropping you think?

Better to just throw on a SC onto my SS?

Does the ZL1 get old after awhile too?

I was thinking of trading in my 2019 2ss but think I’m just going to put a pro-charger in my Camaro.

You'd lose less of your investment buying a ZL1 than just supercharging your SS. If you don't care about reselling than it doesn't matter. You also get a factory warranty with the ZL1, assuming you buy new or a not-so-old used car. Ultimately it's up to you, can't really go wrong either way, just depends what you want.

How does insurance work? I mean if your car gets stolen or wrecked how is the SC and all the money covered? Do you have to take out extra coverage to cover it or just SOL if something happens to the car?

I have had both, back to back. The red one was an M6...the yellow was the A10. I can tell you for a fact the acceleration in the ZL1 pulls a lot harder than the SS, when punching it to the floor. My problem was, I got used to the feeling of the ZL1 within weeks of owning it. And the payments were hundreds more for the Z car. Now to the gas gauge issue...the ZL1 sucked gas as it should.. much faster than my current ss hands down. Then there is the summer only tires, which sucked in the rain, and picked up every grain of gravel in the county. Since I wasnt a track person, there goes $1500 to put some street rubber on the Z for just plain crusin.

Honestly I think its just human nature to just get bored with what you got, no matter what it is. But hey, if its on the bucket list...you just have to do it.

I think sengli has nailed it, you'll get used to the power no matter what. Resale value will be better with a ZL1, but there is no way to completely avoid the loss you'll incur by not buying it in the first place.

As for me, I chose the upgrade path and didn't regret it at all, this car is my forever Camaro (and now way faster than a stock ZL1).

You'll always get used to the power. I'm used to my power and it's a just a tad bit more than a SS and a ZL1.

1400hp??

Must have taken A LOT of upgrades. I can't see how the stock ss or Zl1 could handle 1400hp without upgrading A LOT of components. Someone on here said about 800HP for the ss

Good question, haven’t a clue… I think if I have the receipt for it and that I have pics it’s installed should be covered. But i guess I should call my insurance provider to ask.
Update :

Looks like it it’s going to cost more on your insurance.

You'll always grow used to the power and desire more... I fly one of the most advanced private jets in the world, it has more than 31,000 lbs of thrust (roughly 62,000 HP) and can climb from Sea Level to 45,000 ft in about 15 minutes and go 600 Mph... I wish it had more power...

My take is, if you aren't tracking a car, the power of an SS is plenty for the street, you can get into plenty of trouble with the power of an SS on the open roads... If you are tracking, I think a ZL1 would be worth the extra money... I contemplated buying a ZL1 (I LOVE the front end and hood of the ZL1) but knew I had no intentions of tracking the car so went with a 2SS and honestly feel like I can't even fully enjoy the power of the SS because I am at 100 Mph in just a few quick seconds...

Just my $0.02 worth... Regardless, you'll always become numb to whatever power you have wishing you had more... Realize what you are doing with the power and get the appropriate amount for what you REALLY need...

There’s a misconception about a ZL1 that all owners will put theirs on a track. To own one doesn’t mean that I will ever track mine and probably never will. The ZL1 is a well balanced Camaro with the LT4 and is a blast to drive. If you buy used which is what I did you save money but new is better if you can afford it. I wasn’t willing to pay retail for a new one and got a deal on a low mileage 2017 which hasn’t had any problems since I bought it in 2019. You can put a supercharger on your SS which would save you money over a ZL1 but it will never be a ZL1 which is what you are wanting now. I had the same dilemma that you have when I had my 2016 2SS to supercharge it getting pricing and finding a shop to do the work that I could trust was an issue too. I found out it would cost me between $10,000 to $12,000 to get it done and just wasn’t worth it to have done. It just depends on what you want and can afford to do. Yes you get adjusted to extra hp over time and tend to want more. Your choice and wish you luck.

You may overlook my input, & I could give a shit less if you do, but I’ve been in your exact position. I seriously contemplated adding a 2650 to my SS. I took a serious look at what modding the SS would cost vs just going to a ZL1.

For me I heavily weighed the pros & cons of each route & ultimately decided the ZL1 was the way to go. Having 650HP & a full warranty, with all the upgradability, was a no brainer.

YMMV

Excuse my friend, he’s a little slow… (you might not get it but he does)

Yeah, a Twin Turbo SS, or ZL1 for that matter, can be absolutely insane. It takes a fair amount of supporting mods, but not nearly close to impossible.

a friend of mine has a ZL-1,pretty much stock with appearance mods.he claims 15 mpg with the cruise control on if that enters into play at all.the price of gas appears to be headed up,so if this is a daily driver thats something to consider.
