From a small specialty dealer standpoint, yes they get ahold of a manual, and they can get a little bit more money.

From a big dealership standpoint. They pay interest rate on the inventory, they need to rotate it fast. Only 3% or so of the population knows how to drive manual nowadays. That means 100 people walk into the sales floor, 3 can actually buy the car. That doesn't mean they want a manual.

Also, manuals aren't usually daily drivers, hence less miles on them in avg compared to autos. That's why the stats can be skewed, less miles means more resale value.

IMO, yes I would pay a little more for the right car with a manual to have fun. Dealers not so much. Having a car seat on the floor for 2 months is not a deal for them.

Also, since there aren't any manuals anymore (2k units of camaro for the whole US), makes you think there's a lot of demand, but there isn't. I bet the waiting list for Ferraris is larger than for manual camaros.

Put it this way: there are early 2000s manual Ferraris, the last cars they built with three pedals, that are not necessarily “collectibles” that sell for more used than brand new ones with flappy paddles.

All of my gearhead pals, myself included, to this day peer into a parked musclecar to see if its got a stick

A habit of all the "over the hill" gearheads is to peer into a car to see if it has a stick. Been doing that very thing since the 60s and still get the same thrill when I see a speeder in the console.

I do that and I’m 46. Hardly over the hill

Don't know if they have higher resale, but there are much less of them and they sell quicker. If you're looking for a three pedal, odds are you will hold out for one than "settle" for an auto.

I had a 21 LT1 m6 that was stolen, got a 23 LT1 A10 for a replacement. As quick and responsive that 10 is, there was a part of me that couldn't get use to it. Ended up trading it for a 24 LT1 m6, so much more engaging.

I’ve been driving nothing but stick since 1997 when I bought my 1990 Beretta GT 5speed. I was 20. Never looked back, never owned an automatic since.

When you enjoy driving stick you simply have no interest in even looking at any car that isn’t available with a manual.

There’s a ton of great cars out there that simply do not interest me one bit because you can’t get them with a stick.

It might sell higher but the amount of time and effort you put in to selling it might not be worth it.

Every manual I’ve owned I got exactly what I asked and sold it within a day or two.

I sold my 2009 Accord EX-L V6 6 speed coupe with 190,000 miles for $7900, exactly what I listed it for on Craigslist, to a guy from Columbus. He called me two days after I published it at 9:00 in the morning and he and his dad drove all the way up from Columbus to Cleveland to pay cash for it that day, sight unseen (besides the pictures I posted).

If you know what you have and know how to make a good, clear Craigslist posting with detailed pictures of everything and detailed, technical, and copious amounts of information good and bad, you’ll sell a stick faster than anything.

People like me want them. Thing is, people like me skip over any advertisement that isn’t descriptive, technical, full of detailed pictures, and well defined and descriptive about the car.

We like to buy cars from “car guys”…… if you’re not really a car guy, and are trying to sell a stick, I question how you really maintained it.
