Right Hand Drive-RHD-GEN 6 Camaros
Hi Guys,
New member here from Sydney, Australia. Been reading the forum here nearly everyday, the best forum on GEN 6 Camaro's on the net! Just for an introduction, we have two of the new 2016 GEN 6 Camaro's, both 2SS Coupes, one in Red Hot, one in Dark Garnet Red, paddle shift autos. They are here already here in Sydney, Australia. We are re-engineering them to Right Hand Drive, seeing that GM have decided not to follow Ford and do a RHD version of the new Camaro's (like Ford did with the new Mustang's). As you would imagine, GM knew it would be a huge undertaking to do a production line version in RHD format for them now that they are in production, and all their tooling and robotics is LHD only of course, and would cost them in the scores of millions to do as a production line version. Now having taken one of our two Camaro's apart to do that, nothing has been designed symmetrically at all, so it is a huge undertaking to do that, and on a small (comparitevely) budget for RHD Camaro's in very small numbers for Australia. Will get some photos up of what they look like pulled apart etc soon. We are in the prototyping phase right now, 3D scanning everything and then large format 3D printing the initial mock-up prototype pieces for RHD. Should be interesting. Cheers Allan Reed |

Interesting.
I have a bunch of family in Melbourne, Australia. All my family on my dad's side moved there at the end of the 1960s - 69-70. I need to go visit them at some point.

RHD GEN 6 2016 Camaros
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the comments. Yes, huge undertaking, one GM didn't want to do! No problem getting them done, as we need to do at least 20 per year to be viable. Thats no problem. We have been doing this longer than anyone in Australia, since the late 1980's actually. This is somewhere around the 15th to 20th different make/Model we've done, lost count long ago. Done many, many hundreds of American vehicles to Right Hand Drive. We do the latest F150's, Ram's, and the GEN 3/GEN 4 Dodge Vipers. We are the best and most experienced at what we do and we have all the latest cutting edge technology to enable us to do it. Otherwise we wouldn't still be here doing these! Having said that, still we have to do a new RHD billet electric steering rack, new ECU modules to run the amber (yes) rear indicators, new ECU module to run (reverse) the mirror and door window electrics, test all the lights to Australian standards, maybe modify the headlamps to dip on low beam the other way, make a new left hand exterior mirror housing so you can see your field of view when seated on the right, make a new wiper cowl to mirror image the windscreen wipers, and new wiper gear under that, do the Sat Nav to Australian mapping, in the new RHD dash get the HUD to shine correctly when your sitting on the right side, as the windshield curves the other way of course, new door window switch plates as they get moved, new mounts for the other switches on the door to go to the opposite side, maybe move the engine over, and that means move the trans over and modify the exhaust then to fit (hopefully not), move the ABS unit to the other side in the engine bay because thats where the brake booster is going now, new A/C lines, heater hoses, etc, then all the usual conversion pieces like all the wiring, all new dash board in RHD, modified HVAC under the dash (last two are huge jobs), modified power pedals etc, new left hand and right hand firewalls (they get completely cut out), new console for the center as the armrest has to be mirrored in reverse, plus move the PRND indicator over the other side, so basically all new console, that covers most of it, plus do all the evidence for the Federal government, including speedometer testing (done), noise tests (done), child restraint tests (done), front seat strength tests (done) and much more. Easy! Last edited by Camaro6.com.au; 05-27-2016 at 05:41 AM. |

They're selling the Camaro in England in LHD, but it would have to be made to legally drive on the left. You should check into that for some of those parts, especially for the exterior lighting.
