When GM made the decision to go with the alpha platform on Gen6 the auto reviewers all raved about the weight loss and the world class handling. The car was no longer just a muscle car but a world class sports car. Unfortunately, the give and take with the new platform while increasing handling ability substantially also increased cost and reduced interior space, not to mention the growing pains and quality issues that unfortunately many of us lived through, and went along with moving production of an all new car to a completely different plant. With the success of Gen5, GM was and rightfully so, very conservative with the styling changes on Gen6 where by not addressing the visibility issues. A combination of all of this has cut into sales big time and as such Gen6, like it or not, has been a major disappointment from the standpoint of total units sold. The proof is in the pudding when you look back at the sadly needed red tag fire sale near the end of it's first year of production, when sports cars should be selling at their highest point, to the price reduction that was necessary at the beginning of it's second year of production, to the sadly much needed recent shift cancellation and production cuts. These are all issues that can not be adressed in a mid cycle refresh and as a result, love it or hate it, this is the direction that GM has decided to go with the car. Sadly, what remains to be seen is if there will ever be a Gen7 if this refresh isn't successful at reviving sales to an acceptable level!

So the '16-'18 were too aggressive, they scared people/the competition. Refresh is a neutered 6th gen I guess?...maybe just metrosexual.

I have a very hard time seeing how the new SS front end is more appealing to a mass audience than the current front end.

It is definitely not softer or less aggressive than the current SS. If anything, it just stands out that much more.

Agreed. I see some people saying it's less aggressive. IMO it's taken everything that "people view as aggressive" and thrown in out the front end, the fangs, the black out center section the "flowtie" To me it's like they tried to make it to aggressive but the design just doesn't flow

This pic has been around for quite a while, and I don't recall there being much clamor to actually use this look for future sales in a refresh....Why all the camo-spy-shot baloney if this was already out there for years?...oh well..

I just can’t get over how bad that bow tie looks. That one decision has completely ruined the look of the refresh. Seeing the photoshops of it moved made me actually like the overall design. The bow tie just throws it all off.

I agree. That is my only problem with the look of the SS.

Well if the new SS will be purchased by some because it is less agressive and by some because it is more aggressive then GM has hit it out of the park

Btw i like where the flowtie is and i much prefer the "black belt" vs body color belt because the new grille is much shorter then previous. Splitting it visually and moving the emblem higher would only make it look even shorter and that would not be a good thing.

Besides i am sure GM will offer carbon fibre bits for the belt and the extractor and soon folks will go gaga because any carbon fibre bits do it to people and all will be forgotten - while they open their wallets wider and update their sigs accordingly.

Just my opinion amongst a sea of other opinions but the new one is more rounded with fewer sharp edges and the grille is MUCH shorter. This changes the look a lot imo and also makes it more practical for a lot of folks who look at the current one and possibly wonder: how they heck will i get it up on my driveway/garage/how long before i/my kids/my grandpa etc eff it up and have to replace the nose.
