Save $ - Custom Exhaust Experience.
I've been trying to be as cost effective as possible with this Camaro build and have built my own exhaust system with the help of a local exhaust shop. Results have been awesome and cheap. Around $1k for everything including labor, given I did a lot of it myself.
I started with a set of Speed Engineering headers ($500) and paired them with a set of Magnaflow high flow cats ($150). Installed the the headers myself and had the cats welded in.($60) No fitment issues with the 1 7/8inch headers. I didn't want to go with one of the big names for axle-back exhaust because with a little fabrication I've found you can save tons of money. I picked up a Rev9 Flowmaxx axle-back from eBay ($300) using the best offer feature, knowing it was gonna be a little off due to the rest of the exhaust being from SE, it was about 4 inches to short. Threw everything in my trunk and headed to the exhaust shop again. They were able to fabricate a piece for me and weld everything together ($90) Sounds great with very minimal drone and it's completely emissions legal (minis California). Just wanted to share my experience piecing together my exhaust system. Might save some other $$$. Ill upload a sound clip in a later post. |

I'm happy you saved money, but I'm keeping this car for a while. I want the best.

You could've searched for a used exhaust and probably saved even more... I dont think 1K isnt that cheap... its not that off from proven brands

It's cheap for a full exhaust system like he did.

I thought so too. Eventually I'll get tired of it and swap to a different axle back (MBRP or Solo), but this is a good starting point. Gets me nice and loud without breaking the bank. Looking at some of the Corsa and Borla options and them asking $1200 and up for an axle back seems really high to me. I know they sound great, but that's just not for me. More power to anyone who wants to spend their $$$ on them tho, you will obviously have a great sounding exhaust, I've always been a Corsa and Magnaflow fan myself.

Yeah, I spent $2000 for the Borla cat back set up and install.
