Added LUMBAR support to my ZL1 Recaro Seats

I already did the seat recline mod, so now its time to really step it up. Im in the process of adding LUMBAR to the seat. Here is the progress so far. These are manual lumbar adjusters which I have cut and modified before making a cross brace and getting it inside the seat.

I went with the manual lumbar because there is hardly any room in or under these seats for bladders, motors, or switches that I was comfortable working with. Also, because I didn't want to worry about bladders deflating or leaking.

I still have some finish work and mounting for the adjuster knob.

Please see the video links to see the lumbarbi n action, as it's hard to see the support in pictures.

Check out my other posts with my other custom ZL1 projects.

Thanks

Progress made today on the bracket. Just a couple more details to finish up and then upholster it and I'm finished with the Driver's side.

Sweet. I've been thinking of the recline fix too, as I can't get comfortable in the seats without them reclining a bit more. Was it difficult to do? I've read the walkthrough and it looks like a bitch to do...or at least easy to screw up the seat.

Recline mod isn't bad. Just be prepaired to possibly go through a couple drill bits if you dont have some good quality ones.

Be sure the seat is fully reclined, all the way down, and all the way forward before disconnecting the battery. Then use the upper seat latch to pull the seat back forward. That mod made a huge difference in itself. Take your time undoing the seat covers and digging out the buried zippers on each side(they are tucked up in the foam padding).

The back cover flap has a hidden clip that makes it look like a seam, but its where the back attaches to the seat bottom(see red arrow #1).

Drill out the welded pin on each side of the seat(red arrow #2).

Ebay. They're actually for a 2005 Ford Excursion/Expedition. GM ones were too pricy to TRY this on($300). They fit just right. Only made 4 cuts to the metal slides. Had to fabricate a cross bracket too, but they will serve the purpose just fine.

Driver's Side is now finished. Works perfectly and turned out exactly how I envisioned. Bracket was riveted in place after a layer of foam and covered with leather. I cut the front cushon cover and tucked the small section under so I could attach the bracket and then secure the cover.
