Wow. Really? What was it?

The lack of a manual on the C8 gives me pause if I’m being honest...I really enjoy rowing the gears. I bought a ZL1 6spd Vert a few weeks ago and I still haven’t even gotten to drive it yet! Not even a test drive. I’ve driven 6th gen rentals and enjoyed it, and love the LT4 in the Z06.

Weather has warmed up a little here and I hope to get her home this weekend.

I traded my 2016 Z06 in on a 2019 ZL1-1LE about a year ago. I do participate in allot of HPDE's and my thoughts at the time was to get a true "track" car, which the ZLE is, however, its not user friendly on the street, it literally beats you to death, but on the track, its truly a beast. Hindsight being 20/20, I miss my Z06, it was very street friendly, and a beast on the track. As a matter of fact, I am looking for a good used C7 Z06 for street use, and keep the ZLE for the track. But if I could have a do over, I'ld keep the Z06. My .02 cents...

No need for pause, we have a C8 Z51 and ZL1, stock to stock, I'd take the C8 all day over the ZL1. The only reason I have my ZL1 is because I modified it, I can't really do that with the C8 due to PCM tuning limitations right now.

the rotors come with an anti-corrosion coating that looks like grey paint. Gone are the days of ‘oil coated’ rotors for corrosion protection.

My guess is the ‘flakes’ are the remnant if that coating at the edge of the pad sweep. Nothing to worry about.

But you’re driving an Automatic transmission in both, correct? The lack of a manual in the C8 is the hanging chad in my decision process. I get that the DCT is lightening fast, but for now a third pedal gives me the driver experience I’m looking for. Glad I found my M6 ZL1 Vert. I’ve got time to decide on the C8.

Auto in both but its not about the transmission, the C8 just feels all around the better sports car. That being said, if you absolutely must have a manual trans, then your decision is clear.

Congrats on owning both! That’s quite a stable.

It’s wishful thinking that a manual trans C8 will ever be produced! I would venture to say that the Camaro is the last Chevy with a manual trans. Enjoy them while they are being built and they still run on gasoline!

This is sad but likely true. The 1LE-M6 may well be the final, ultimate, high water mark of modern American internal combustion performance, factory stock.

Even just watching those YouTube videos of Nurburgring test runs in brand new supercars with automatic transmissions is a snooze fest, even though they're beating the 7:16:04 of the 1LE

Let me guess, the C8 lacks currently aftermarket and feels too sluggish on the highway after driving the ZR1?

I'd definitely take a ZL1 vert 6 speed over a C8.

Don't forget about Cadillac. Hard to believe you can get a 6 speed in a Cadillac and not a Vette. I think the C8 is an amazing car but would be nice to have the option.

Yeah great point, I totally forgot about the Cadillac. GM would have been far better served to spend their investment on putting a manual in the C8 instead of the Cadillac. If there was ever a car for which it should be 'OK' to have an automatic and no option for a manual, it would be a luxury car like a Cadillac.

Yeah I didn’t forget about the Cadillac but it probably won’t be around much longer due to low sales. People that tend to buy a Cadillac want a luxury car that rides good and has an auto trans. People tend to forget that the Corvettes with manual trans were not selling that well either and that’s probably one reason GM decided against putting that option in the C8s. Seems every Corvette owner I know has one with an automatic and didn’t want a manual except for a couple that are gearheads like us here on the forum.

C8 blinds spots are horrible.

C8 HTC does not feel like a convertible with the nacelles.

No manual trans

C8 trans at low speeds feels very clunky.
