Do you need to strip off all the wax and other things applied to the car before using the crystal seal?

Glen, how do you feel about ceramic coatings like wolfgang vs a sealant?

Ceramics are for people that don't want to detail the car And want long-term protection. They work amazingly well. Restless wash and forget it. For years .....I like putting on sealant and trying new things. It's the reason I don't use the ceramic. It's all personal preference. They both gloss the same.

Just make sure you dont buy BF Crystal Coating. Completely different product from BF Crystal Seal.
Crystal Coating is longer lasting and much more of a pain to use. It also is much more likely to be out of date when purchased and gum up like a boss when applied since it's sold far less frequently. |

Wow! The results of these sealants are amazing.
Glen, thank you for all the helpful product info. I decided to get the Wolfgang ceramic coating. I'm not 100% sure I understand what the differences are between the sealants and ceramic coatings, but ceramics seem to be the way to go for me since they last longer. For me, gone are the days of spending 6-8 hours detailing a car. |

From a detailing site: A coating is a hand applied product that is much thicker and much more durable than a traditional wax or paint sealant. A wax or sealant might last anywhere from 1 month to 1 year where as a coating can last multiple years. A coating can add additional protection against scratching and marring that a wax or sealant cannot. A coating is usually much more expensive because it requires the labor of polishing before application. (But sealants need polish first time too) Coatings for the most part are much more expensive than a wax or sealant and require more expertise to apply properly. A coating can only be removed by polishing it off. If you are a DIY beginner I would recommend that you start off with a good sealant or wax. However crystal seal is unique among all the products because it's a wipe on and walk away. (WOWA) You don't have any buffing, you don't have white haze in the cracks that you're getting off for weeks and around the logos , it just goes on clean and after 20 minutes you're back out driving , that's what makes it really special.

Just went through the doc and found this: 1. wash car with Dawn dishwashing detergent....JUST THIS ONCE to strip it clean (and clay DURING wash if necessary) 2. wax on and buff off the polish - just like waxing your dad's car—> polish is the real secret, not the "wax"... 3. wipe on the WOWA crystal seal polymer like windex...no buffing...crystal seal self glosses and cures.... Note: for wheels, glass and stripes, skip #2, go right from #1 to #3 (dawn to crystal seal) So, what I'm seeing here is that I'm supposed to apply the crystal seal over the wax? Polish is not wax....the procedure for polishing is like wax: apply and buff off

How does this compare to Chemical Guys V7 or Chemical Guys JetSeal?
I got a spray bottle of V7 as a gift, but the bottle had a slow leak and it evaporated while in storage. Never got a chance to try it. Last edited by RenegadeXR; 08-29-2016 at 07:55 AM. |
