I don't think GM cares all that much about the slow sales. They've had years to advertise the car heavily. They haven't. They could have fixed all the 5th gen complaints with the 6th gen, they didn't, in fact they arguably made some of those complaints worse. The Camaro won't sell as well as the Mustang or Challenger/Charger because it's not as practical. The trunk opening sucks. Visibility, while easily dealt with, sucks for most people. Interior storage is a joke. To your average buyer those things matter. And I suspect most C8s are selling for more than a ZL1 cost also. And DCT only. And 2 seat only. It makes the Camaro look practical.

FYI, the new C8 Stingray may start at 60K, but with options, most people are paying 85-90K. Thats for the base model. The Z06 will be 130-150K, it will be a beast no doubt, but it will cost significantly more than the ZLE.

I want to throw this out there. I keep hearing the price on the zo6 is going to be crazy. My prediction is under $100k. Likely around $90k for the base zo6.

A few misconceptions here, lol!!
First off, stock for stock, the C8 Base and Z51 is faster in the quarter mile than the ZL1/ZLE. The C8s have already done 11.1 in testing while the ZL1 and ZLE have been in the 11.4-11.6 range. Second, A C8 2LT with Z51 optioned to standard ZL1 specs should only cost around $75K. And that would be with MRC and front lift. People who are paying over $80K are paying for stuff like racing stripes, GT2 seats, upgraded wheels, the high wing, and other options. And probably a 3LT to boot. You'd have to really dress that car up to get it in the $85K to $90K range. Some people like checking off every option and that's cool. But it is not indicative of what a comparably equipped C8 would cost. Third. The C8 pricing was not a gimmick. GM has increased pricing of performance cars in the past after the first year of production. The C7s went thru this. And even the 18 ZL1 had a price increase over the 17 ZL1s. GM has already announced that the price will increase for 2021 but I think that was more to get people in to buy up all the 2020s. Because like I said, this was nothing new of GM's part so announcing it seemed more like advertising. On top of that, most buyers are not paying markups. ANyone who is paying a markup is either ill informed or very gullible. Most of the pages and forums I belong to has members telling others not to pay markups. And most of us are promoting the dealerships that are not charging. Furthermore, 2020s are all spoken for at this point. It will be very difficult getting one if you are not already on the list. Plus the strike pushed things back. So the cut off for a 2020 is September I believe. If your date is not before September then you might be getting a "2021" instead of a "2020". However dealerships will be honoring the "2020" price if you are already on the list. Fourth, the ZL1 and ZLE are specialty vehicles. The ZL1 starting price at MSRP is right around the price of a 1LT Z51 with no additional add ons. The ZLE MSRP is around the price of a 2LT Z51 with nothing extra added on. These cars are all built for different purposes. And each has their own specific fan base. Although a lot of people are cross shopping, these cars all are pretty much as different as different can be despite similar pricing. And each of these cars at MSRP is a phenomenal value. However many are getting brand new ZL1s and ZLEs with discounts. And there are lots of used ZL1s and ZLEs that are going for around high $40K to low $50K with very low miles. So the market is there if you shop around. Lastly there are even other options like a used C7 Z06 or a new C7 GS. These cars likewise have really great deals right now. You can't go wrong whichever way you decide to go. |

ZL1 needs the LT5 more than a price cut.
Will either happen? Probably not. GM doesn't even know what to do with the Blackwing V8. Last edited by triggerjerk; 01-27-2020 at 05:07 PM. |
