ZL1 - 1LE Race Seats & Airbag Lights Issue
Hello everyone,
I've installed 2 COBRA GT seats, harnesses, Cage, etc... and have an issue with the airbag lights being on and need your help. -Is there a SOLID solution out there that can remove the airbag light and the airbags still function normally? I've searched and cant find anything. Your help is appreciated guys, Thank you |

Hey Real1LE, I doubt GM would provide any information due to liability issues, but it ever hurts to ask. What part of California are you in? I don't have a Camaro yet, but when it comes I was going to reach out to Apex Speed Technology in Los Angeles. They seem to mainly focus motorsport electronics. Their website is currently down, but here is their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pg/apexspee...=page_internal |

Ha, well a couple of things here...
"Air Bags Function Normally" I've got to tell you, from what I've seen, they absolutely will deploy with aftermarket seats in the car, sadly I've seen it first hand more than once. The topic has been beaten to death, but the AirBags don't suddenly stop protecting the occupant because there is an issue with one of the bags. In addition to this, I've also seen Airbags NOT deploy, when they should have, in a ZL1 track accident. Also, as we've seen, they will deploy if the car feels like it might be about to roll over, sometimes way prematurely. Good luck!

Thanks for the information guys. im not savvy enough or have the time to go through learning how to rewire the harness to get rid of the light. all i care about is the airbag actually deploying to help protect, in case of an accident. the light doesnt bother me at all. in addition, i have done all i could to add driver safety (roll cage, 6 point harness, seats hard mounted to the floor, HANS device, etc.. i think i'll be confident knowing that they will deploy / function normally without being affected by the light being on, for whatever reason.
but, im going to reach out to GM just to see if they have any idea of how to solve it. maybe they can recommend. after all, they do build these things Thanks guys and please drive SAFE! |

Hey Real 1LE,
The simple solution to turnoff the airbag light and also ensure that the airbags deploy correctly; go to your GM dealer and get a seat belt extender, they are free. Cut the male buckle off and plug it into the appropriate seat belt receiver and Bob's your uncle problem solved.

Also not touched on is the safety of having the airbags deploy after seats have been removed. The system goes off weight, plus many other factors like yaw, speed, angle of collision etc. If you remove the seat it will sometimes put the car in a failsafe mode where the airbag will just deploy at a set variable without intelligence. Just keep that in mind.
I still did it in my old car, but its an inherent risk.
