SC Coolant resevoir level, Confused

I have at least 1k miles on the car now since the mods and i keep seeing that i need to top off the SC resevoir. A few days ago i took the car to the shop and they did a pressure test and it holds pressure so we replaced the cap. I find that i am still having to top off the fluid level everyday i drive it. I know someone on the forum had a cooling brick leak mentioned in another thread.

The fact the pressure holds, and i did a vacuum leak test plus added fluid using one of those power fillers, why would i still need to be adding fluid. I would have thought if i had an air pocket, it would be removed by now between the pressure test and the vacuum test/fill that was performed.

Ideas?

There is no evidence of fluid leaking anywhere? Not even any leaking onto the ground? Residual fluid has to be somewhere.

Sounds like the shop who did the work needs to figure this out for you rather than you doing the hard work for them.

Sounds like you are doing all the right things and it might just have air in it still. How much are you adding?

I was one the with the leaking IC brick that Magnusson replaced under warranty. Your situation doesn't sound like mine. I could easily detect a leak when a -5 psi vac was placed on the system, it would bleed back to 0 psi.

Do you have any way to operate the pump? I try to get the air out of mine with a combination of running the pump, squeezing lines to force flow to different sides, and fill, then let rest and come back and top up again. Usually it takes a couple sessions to get "all the air out" but once thats done it is solid. You can tell when you have most of the air out because the pump doesn't sound like air is churning through it. I operate the pump via my one gauge or via HP Tuners.

It's just air purging out of the system....it takes a while to get it all out no matter what you do. I have tried forcing the IC pump on and letting it run with the car in Accessory mode and it still doesn't get the air completely out. Heat cycling seems to be the only way to get the last 10% of air out of the system.

Nothing on the ground or the undercarriage. There was a little wetness on frame directly under the resevoir, but i wasnt sure if that is from me when i was pouring it in or from cap leaking.

they did squeeze hoses while they were looking for leaks. pressure didnt change with pressure applied like u check radiator leaks nor did i see a pressure drop under vacuum when i did it.

Granted the resevoir isnt huge, so i would say the level drops 1/2inch a day. Guess that is a couple ounces. Next time i add some i will measure how much i add.

Place it in run mode and use HP Tuners to turn it on or use Aerforce OBDII gauge.

Yep, in HPT go under Vehicle Controls and Special Functions and you will find a tab there with a control to turn it on/off

Ben,

I use the HPTuners Scanner function. It's pretty convenient. A several hundred miles after I installed mine, I noticed I had to add up to a couple cups-worth. I thought I purge it pretty well, but it turns out I didn't. Like King said - it's probably normal to top-off. I'm not getting leaking or anything. Since our bricks are so high, I'm not surprised. From what it sounds like, I'm sure you're okay, and just need a little top-off. I plan on checking in another couple hundred miles. My MATs fall slightly during pulls, so I know they were still working well.

I only found this out because, for sheets and giggles, I thought I'd try something similar to Water Wetter, knowing I'd likely not see anything appreciable change. HA
