300 hp v8 to 300 hp v6?...whats your opinion...

I'm just wondering, of the people that currently own (or previously owned) a (for example) 4th gen Z28 or SS, do you find it to be somewhat of a slap in the face for the V6 5th gen to be just as powerful as the top of the line 4th gens?..
or do you find it to be all the better..?
I could definitely see where, if having owned a Z28 or SS, would kind've put you in somewhat of an envious state of mind, and aggravated that the new camaro is going to be just as good/if not better than your 4th gen...
(keep in mind im not trying to annoy anyone off im just wondering if this is how some people are thinking, or not.)
and then the top of the line V8's are going to be loads better then the top 4th's..

I mean its obvious technology advancements have raised significantly over the years and this would have probably been expected from the new generation camaro..no?..
despite this fact of the 5th gen being super badass..does it not feel like a slap to the cerebellum?...

your thoughts?...

(Edit: Go ahead & broaden your opinion to include any generation camaro if necessary, I was just specifically using 4th gen as an example as it's the one I read up the most about cuz I wanted one a while back and started reading up about it)

As the owner of a '99 SS, I'm not bothered at all by Chevrolet offering a V6 in the new Camaro with HP in the neighborhood of 300.

If anything, I feel proud of Chevrolet for developing an engine capable of that kind of HP while increasing mileage.

(and besides, the SS was rated at 327HP when I bought him. He's not at that HP number now. )

My car dyno'd more than GM rated it! With a lid, LTs, CB, and tune, my car put 366 RWHP to the ground.

Regardless of that, I wouldn't feel hurt that a V6 would be offered with 300 horse. Good for GM. I'll be looking for the model with 200+ more horse

I really won't care, because unless it has the torque and the sound of my LT1, i won't be scared.

it's only a slap if it came a year or two after the 4th gens...but we're talking almost a decade, now...so I can't imagine being offended by technological advancments...hell, look at computers; I'd be pissed ALL the time.

The 3.6L is definitely impressive...and it's definitely a glimpse into the future (It's only gonna get better!!)
It may never have the torque of a V8, nor the exact sound. But both are so close, I don't think anyone would notice unless your sitting on a dyno.

Yeah, a decade later is a long time, and you come to expect leaps in technology. Who knows what the next big leaps will be.. However a V6 will never have the torque or the sound a V8 does..

It might not have huge amounts of Tq like a v8.... but doesn't it have like 270-ish tq that starts at something like 2k rpms?

Given the current state of technology in engines today I would almost think it would be a slap in the face of 5th gen owners if the V6 did not come out with 300hp (or at least close to it).

Now if we had happen today what happened between the 1971 Z28 (LT-1 put out 300hp) and the 1982 Z28 (5.0 LG4 with 145hp) then that would be a slap in the face..

nope, doesn't bother me in the slightest... the LS1 was WAAAAAY underrated, so saying that an LS1 was 300hp is like saying that an elephant is strong... sure, its right, but its not very accurate.

It probably doesn't have the peak torque of the old V8, but how about the 1000rpm axle-snapping torque?

I really have no idea what the torque numbers/chart look like for those V8s.

Tell me about it... in 1987 I paid $999 for a 10 Megabyte Hard Drive.

Ok how about the 80's where the V-8's had like 170 hp. . .and then the 90's v-6's came in right next to that and I believe the 98-02 v-6 had more power then that. so it's just progression in technology.
