I can see engaging in risky activities like sky-diving or mountain climbing at 60 if you're thinking of punching out or bored with life. Offing yourself, and leaving an online suicide note to justify it? Loser. 60 years old. And he uses the state of the USA's financial portfolio as a reason to kick it. Pathetic. My Pop's 75 and he's having heart surgery. He's bravely hoping for the best and sticking it out for the sake of his family and for himself. He likes life even though sometimes life sucks.

That guy in your link is a cowardly punk-ass quitter. That's my thoughts.

oh, PS, he suggests he's using a gun. Great. Another asshole that gives fuel to the anti-gun fire.

I didnt read the why not or the self serving part. Nothing in the WHY stood out to me to be so overbearing that it warranted suicide. Hell, I go to the store to get milk and get soda pop instead and I am only 44 years old. Not judging but his ideology is flawed in my eyes. JMHO

No, just no! Tell me, did anyone know about this before he killed himself on Thursday? If so, they should be ashamed for letting this happen. I suppose it is his life, he can do what he wants, but someone should have tried to stop it!

Wow. All that effort by Martin Manley to rationalize his actions.

I am reminded of last Sunday's newspaper column, by Steve Kalas, a local behavioral health consultant and counselor (in his mid 50s) who writes:

...I was startled [at the gym] last week when I raised up from the drinking fountain to find This Guy standing there, looking at me. He was early 40ish. He had warmth in his eyes and a smile on his face... “You are making us older guys look good,” This Guy said.

I feel the compliment. There is nothing ironic about This Guy. He is utterly sincere....

Kalas recounts his dumb reply to The Guy and then endlessly (sorry Steve) mulls his motivations for his dumb reply, finally coming to the realization of:

I’m saying I no longer have a dog in the fight of how or whether I make others “look good.” Or whether I think I look good. I care about how I feel. I covet feeling alive and vital.

I guess Martin Manley ran out of coveting feeling alive and vital.

Here's a link to Steve Kalas' complete column:

I've always said if I get to the point I can't wipe my own ass just take me out of my misery. Its his life. I respect that.

From my Note
