Fake ZL1 at auction

I was looking on Copart Salvage Auto Auctions and found what appeared to be one of the fifty 2013 yellow ZL1 convertibles with a manual transmission. Here is a link to the listing:

https://www.copart.com/lot/33605561/...zl1-ca-hayward

It's an insurance vehicle and looks to have left rear damage, but is listed as a "non-runner" which I thought was odd given the location of the damage. Upon further inspection, this particular car looks to have a different engine than the 580 horse LSA that it came with from the factory. It also looks to "not sit quite right" in the engine bay like it's just been thrown in there and a lot of the parts do not line up like they're supposed to. Also, I notice a lot of caked oil residue on the passenger side of the engine bay which shouldn't be that way given an Autocheck vehicle history report shows this car should have about 20 to 25 thousand miles.

If someone doesn't pay real close attention, they will take a bath on this one.

The VIN on the door frame seems to match the online VIN decoders for a ZL1 convertible.

But no way that car is worth the estimated value of $36K USD in that condition anyway. It won’t sell for anywhere close to that....

Wrong intake tube and rims for an original ZL1.

I’d say some stripped the high dollar wheels and the supercharged engine, if you look at the intake it looks like a truck 5.3 intake. I’d say it’s a true ZL1 but someone pulled the hood stuff off. Even the interior as the correct badging so I don’t think someone would go that far.

Those rims are the optional silver Alcoa 5 spokes with machined surface.

I have a set on my car off a ZL1 that the owner went and bought the 10 spokes because he hated to clean the silver rims

Someone has painted them black.

OP, nice heads up! I agree with others, based on the VIN looks like a ZL1 that got picked apart.

Accessory Wheel

This is the wheel that’s on the car except in black, also look at the price and size ZL1’s are 20x10/11 not 8.

The wheels. Engine, engine cover, intake tube and TB and even alternator looks different than on my ZL1. Something not right on this car. I'd steer clear looks like problems.

Somebody ripped off the insurance company good. They pulled the LSA out of it which they can sell or put it in another ride. The LSA with that low of miles will bring a good chunk of change if they want to sell it. I bet that is a junkyard motor and they just threw it in there. Probably does not run either.

Just probably sucks the ZL1 Diff is still there, and the brakes if you could get the car exceptionally cheap you could make a few bucks.
