You guys putting in the Katech pump are taking a pretty big financial gamble if anything ever goes wrong with your engine.

As long as they are out of warrantee, the gamble is not bigger than with the replacement GM pump. If either fail, you are footing the bill for an engine rebuilt either way.

Can't speak for anyone else but mine is being installed as part of a entire Katech package, with warranty, so I am not to worried about my specific situation.

IMO... Modifying cars is a calculated gamble, always has... always will be. I'm willing to take the risk.

That is why it is there... Life it way too short not to laugh every chance you get.

Oil pump is confirmed bad, getting replaced, they don't suspect any engine damage at this time, but they did jot down a note of hearing a tick, but they will not dig anyfurther into the noise until after replacing the bad pump. 4-5 days for parts. Should be getting worked on Tuesday or Wednesday. Anyone have any other recommendation or things I should bring up?

Sorry but this thread is way too long to read in its entirety so i just scanned through a bunch of pages.

So let me get this straight, GM still has not issued a TSB to pre-emptively fix this problem and if you still have a factory warranty, replacing the oil pump with a katech or other aftermarket brand will essentially void your warranty? So essentially we just have to sit and wait to see if it fails on you and if it does fail and you're still under warranty GM will fix it?

feels that way, and I don't have the warm fuzzies knowing my dealership already said they heard some ticking, but won't do more with that until after the oil pump is replaced.

At least they should check your crank and rod bearings while the oil pan is off.

If they check it, make sure they are using new bolts also.
