Gear Ratios
I am looking at a different gear ratio for my 2013 Camaro SS (Auto).
I have been looking at 3.73 or 3.91 I saw the thread of a guy doing the math. He stated 3.91 are good but when you get to 550-600hp you should back off to the 3.73? Which would you guys consider better? I also will be changing to a stage 3 cam, powerband pulley, bigger tires, full suspension, and few other minor things that will also be installed the same times as the gear ratio.

If you will be doing a lot of drag racing, go 3.91. If not, stay with what you have.

I do not plan on dragging. So are you stating just stay with the stock ratios?

You don't "have" to drag race in order to enjoy 3.91 gears. You bought a v8 Camaro because you wanted to have some fun driving, feeling that v8 kick in. The Camaro is a heavy car, and swapping out the stock gears makes it feel way lighter. 1st and 2nd really snap you back into the seat. It's like increasing the HP without adding headers or a supercharger. I love mine and would never go back. Just make sure you have it done by someone who knows what they're doing. I found a Chevy dealer who had a mechanic who specialized in upgrading Corvettes and Camaros.

3.91's are a BLAST for all motor auto cars - stock cam, big cam, anything naturally aspirated.

One of the most tried and true ways to see improvement on any performance vehicle is rear gearing. While it's more pricey on our Gen 5 Camaros than the GM A-bodies I've been involved with you still can't go wrong with a well set-up 3.91 ratio. As tempting as the youtube videos can be it would be wise to choose a qualified technician.

Ok As far as I’m concerned you should just do the 3.73 zl1 swap and be done with it.Yes it’s a little heavy. But it’s almost bulletproof. And if you piece it together like I did you end up with almost the same amount as upgrading and putting 3.91 in the current diff. Also no tiny axles to break!

I would strongly consider this mans advice. I have on a lot of the stuff I’ve done to mine, and agree with everything he said.
