American Axle & Manufacturing, or AAM is the manufacturer of the GM OEM 1LE 3.91 gear set, so that's a good thing. These are considered the 'drop in' gears that usually install very smoothly.
Sorry haven't been on here in a bit...just saw this. This price is bring the car in and that's it. I have used this shop on many occasions over the years...always satisfied. Includes install kit. This is all they do is ring and pinion.

How long would it take for someone that specializes in rear ends to do the swap? 5 hours? They probably get a good deal on the parts also.

I wouldn’t mind that $1500 price tag, I’m having trouble finding any dealership that even wants to touch the car. I had several shops quote me around 350 bucks if I bring them the DIF, but I really just want to be lazy with this one.

If that includes parts, wheel alignment, speedometer recalibration, gear oil, then their labor is DIRT cheap. Maybe they team approach the job and get it all done in 3 hours. Check out some feedback from prior customers if that's possible. Hey, if they can do all of that for $850, AND GUARANTEE IT, you found yourself the right shop.

No way am I comparing it to that samman. It only includes oil, pinion seal, labor and gear set. I was never trying to compare with what you did just stating what I was able to find the gears installed for. If he has to replace bearings which I've been told do not need to be replaced in all cases because you're not replacing the axles only the gear set...and as I stated in my earlier post I've had numerous vehicles done at the same shop. they've been around for as long as I am old..which is awhile. However if he does have to replace bearings and axle seals the price jumps to $1,075. Another $89 for a alignment which I just had done after replacing all the suspension components dammit. Ted Jannetty can adjust my Speedo remotely. So when you start adding all of that together I have to concur you had a pretty nice job done.

I'd say go for it. Get an appointment and a hotel room. Take your significant other and make a small vacation out of it. I would assume there's some things to do in the area. As long as they can have it back to you within a day or so. My dealership had mine for 5 days, so definitely ask.

In the end, trust me, you'll be glad you upgraded. Mine MOVES now!

I'm not sure yet. Lookin at Circle D 245mm Pro Series Billet 3600rpm or maybe their more basic (cheaper)HP LS Series. I need to do more research as I don't really know the pros/cons between single and triple disc lockups. I have more to learn regarding convertors.

It will mainly be for everyday street use, but I am hoping to get something easily trackable too.
