Two Questions: Racing/Converting trans
Couple things I've been curious about- Has anybody tried to race with an V6? I get challenged here and there, but have never attempted it because my car doesn't feel like it has much power or "get up" to it. Even if I pound the gas, it still doesn't have much thrust to it.
Also, I've considered converting my auto trans to a stick. I've also considered trading for an SS, but I love the color and body style, which I've noticed is kind of rare. I think it would be alot more fun as a stick. Just wondering if anybody has attempted this. |

I've raced my V6 quite a few times. Other vehicles on the street and track. It's not like there's some unsaid rule that you have to have a 400 plus hp car to race. In fact it's kind of fun racing a 335 hp car because you have a lot more competition to choose from

Trade your V6 in for a 1SS and be done with it! Or if you really want hp get a used or new ZL1.

It really depends on what you want and are willing to spend. I live in the north so choosing the SS required additional set of winter tires and prem gas and 10qt oil changes. I decided to get the RS LT2 and have not regretted it. 335hp is enough for me coming off the off ramp. If I wanted to track it I would have bought a ZL1 but I wanted a daily driver in all kinds of weather.

Emphatic "heck no" on the conversion, you got the auto, you're stuck with it unless you're willing to be fleeced
Not sure we are allowed to discuss racing here, but your car is pretty good (I had a 2LT before my 2SS), you'd be surprised how few cars out there are able to put bus or even car lengths on it. You need to rev the V6 higher for the torque to arrive, it won't kick you in the stomach like a supercharged V8, but it does pull in higher rpms. Theoretically speaking, of course; I never race and even if I did, it would be under minimal risk conditions, at least three lanes, no sidewalks, no lights nearby, fair weather, great visibility, minimal traffic. And, I live in NJ, the "candidate selection" could be vastly different in WV.

Can it be done, sure. You got very deep pockets? It would be cost prohibitive. You would spend more money on the conversion than it would cost to upgrade to a SS and not get any value out of it.

Modern camaros deliver power very smoothly. My suggestion would be to drive an m6 ss, it will feel a lot more raw, despite that fact that the a10 is probably quicker.

Thanks for all the input! I'm not really trying to race, just get challenged by the occasional ricer and fellow Camaros. I've almost gotten beat by grandma cars pulling out from a red light, so I guess I felt like something wasn't right lol.
I'll probably stick with the V6. I've googled the cost to convert, which ran around 1 or 2K, but I haven't asked around for actual cost. I'll just enjoy this one for awhile and use my Gsxr-600 for speed. |

I think you'd be surprised at what the V6 will keep up with. A 335 hp/3400 lb car has a pretty good power to weight ratio. I've ran stockish LS1's, 5.7 Hemis, bolt on 3 and 4 valve 4.6 Mustangs, etc...

Have you tried driving your automatic in manual mode? Almost as fun as driving with a clutch if you use the gear shift (slap it over to the left to stay in manual mode, then push forward to up-shift and pull back to down-shift). I don't like using the tap-shift levers on the steering wheel, as it's harder to shift during turns.
In manual mode you may feel like you have more torque down low because you can hold the RPM for a higher shift point. Give it a try and let us know what you think...

Tried manual mode yesterday and its definitely a good alternative to the actual thing. May not be for me though, I got carried away with speed in the wrong places lol. Overall though, not bad. I do like being able to wind down the gears with the hills in WV.
