At what point did you realize it's just too much hp?

Face it, we all have a hp addiction. Though I luv what Chevy gave us from the factory, I'm still wanting more.

In my mind I really don't want to stop until this car scares the sh@t out of me. Is it sensible? No. I just know that hp is just as good...or bad as Viagra .

At what point do you want to stop? At what point did you realize that you really went overboard?

I guess the question is... what hp are you at now? Is it enough? Is it too much?

Litre bikes have almost half their weight in horsepower. So maybe 1800 hp is a start to the end.

I used to ride an R1.. That thing was mental, you could be doing 20mph in 6th gear and a quick twist of the wrist be doing 120mph in just a few seconds.

My 8 second fox body mustang has 1000 rwhp and it is to much to use on the street at amu speed. It has ran 8.82 at 160 and will kill the tires on the highway at 130.

I feel like there’s a sweet spot for a street car, as after a certain point the power just becomes almost unusable — and things start getting expensive or unreliable. I don’t think I’ll build another car making over 700 whp again. At least not one without AWD.

I’m not planning to do much over 650 WHP on this car. I think that’s plenty, but maybe I’m just getting old. Scaring the shit out of yourself doing 100 MPH burnouts is fun and all, but having reliable and usable power is more my style these days.

Dave...you’ll know the answer, after it’s too late. Be happy on the “wanting more” side of the fence

ss at 900, i have yet to experience too much

speed based boost and skipping 1st gear helps a bunch keeping it useable.

These newer cars control power much better than those old Fox Body Mustangs. I think these days on these newer cars 800 RWHP is almost commonplace. And quite a few people are north of that. You could legit have a relatively good driving 1000 RWHP on many of these platforms while maintaining great control and comforts.

I had a 14 R1 up until a month ago.
It would do 103 mph in 1st gear.

Im on the slippery slope with cars ,it seems enough is never enough HP. The visceral feel of the power is not the same in a modern cars. Modern automobiles definitely put the power down well , using TC , stabilitrack ,along with reduced cabin noises that tricks the senses.

Logically 650 stock is plenty ,well I’m not sure if I could go down to a lower Hp car at this point. Maybe the zr1 or mid engine corvette is in my future. I’m just as fond of corvettes as I’m with Camaro’s owning both 6th and 7th gens.

I’ve been the route of modding cars to achieve more hp/tq gains and prefer factory fitted power. I cannot tolerate constant gear shifting but manuals are likely best way to be more connected to power train.

The zl1 is fantastic sports car like with anything it has its quirks.

I guess age has a lot to do with it if you've been modding and breaking cars for a long time. With me, I've had too many bad experiences trying to make a stock car do things it wasn't designed to do. Whether it was dealing with bad shops, tuners, or just poorly designed parts, it all became just too much. The new cars are very well engineered for the power they produce, so I find myself asking the question "do I really want to mess with a good thing"? Though a low 11 second street car is very fast by any standard, I find that because it does it so easy, I need it to be a little more exciting. I'm not trying to break any records, I just want to have as much fun with my toy without compromising too much of what makes these cars so great.

This weekend I plan on installing the RotoFab intake I've had sitting a box for a long time. From what I've heard, it does little power wise, but it does change the look under the hood and increases the blower whine. I have a lot of passes under my belt in the stock configuration, and have documented the weather conditions when I run. I do plan on seeing if there is anything gained or loss with this intake, hopefully before it gets too hot. In the future, I'll may be looking for mods that increase the hp without compromising the drivability. I think I would be satisfied with somewhere around 600 rwhp.

Post up your results. What matters most to me would be more mph same DA. Even in -1300 my A10 ZL1 (@1,500 miles) would barely top 126.

I agree Dave. If GM would ever release the drag package, I think that would be enough to satisfy me. 70+ HP, tunes to make the car leave harder, and low 10s (possible 9s) sounds perfect.
