Xpel Wrap

For guys that have had their cars awhile.

I'm going to get a wrap done next week on the areas in red. Just curious, is that about right? Are there other areas that get normal road wear over time that you would protect?

They are doing the whole front, splitter and all.

I put mostly hwy miles on the car and 3-4 track days a year as well so I wanted to cover the main areas of wear.

Any other places you guys think?

Thanks,

Pat.

I'd recommend the whole car if you can swing it. Otherwise I have seen other cars with some in front of the rear wheels.

I've had paint-protection films (PPF) done on at least six cars, between my own cars and relatives.

I would recommend a full hood film, it's something which would clearly be a significant added cost, but you will come to appreciate in time.

I've highlighted two areas which I think you should add:

1. One overlooked area is the well area where the door grab handle is.
2. The other area is the small panel by the rear wheels. So much crap gets kicked up especially the deadly combo of a fast car and sticky tires.

I have what you marked, plus an 8 inch piece at the front of the roof, and the entire lower side aero on both sides...people will scuff them getting in and out of the car.
Then the entire car had a few coats of Ceramic added.

+1 to self healing film on the whole car if you can swing it. Otherwise add full front, rockers and door handles. Maybe top of the bumper at the trunk opening.

For sure you must do the black painted and CF bits. They show everything, especially the rockers. The clear coat is soft and thin, so not having to worry at all about swirls is a huge plus.

After the film, adding a top-shelf durable hydrophobic coating (Gtechniq EXO) to the car will make cleaning a LOT easier.

If your guy/gal is good, have them go higher on the rear-front section to just about where that upper bend is (the one below door handle level). There are some hits you will take there. Some installers will make a one-off modification based on a previous request.

Mine is similar to what Boost-Ed is showing, although I added the lower door/rocker area similar to the front fender. (The profile of the car somewhat protects the other areas in line-of-sight).

Got it.

Thanks for all the replies. The dealer actually did in the door handles/small cove area and in front of the rear wheels. They also did the verticals on the door edges (as well as tint the windows and scratch the plastic package tray while doing so lol.)

Ill speak with the installer, he cuts his own material from a plotter and doesn't order it pre cut so he can do more or less based on what I want.

Thanks again.

+1 on everything Gunk said. If you don't want to do the whole car I would at least do what he's marked off.

Besides the painted section of the hood, this is what I did. Full bumper/splitter, rocker pieces, mirrors, and lower section in front of rear wheels.

You’re definitely going to want to do the area in front of the rear wheels. I thought I did a thorough job, but then ended up getting some small rock chips on both sides in the same spot higher up on the rear quarter. Also got one on the leading edge of the front fender.

So I had some custom pieces made for the quarters (kind of like what comes on a 911), and had my entire front fenders wrapped. Wish I’d done this up front, but live and learn.

These are where I got the chips on my car. And excuse my bad artwork, but this is sort of what I had them do to protect the higher area of the quarter. I was going to have the whole quarter done, but it was like $750 per side just for the film, as it goes all the way to the A pillar. It’s a huge piece needed.

Full Front Clip, behind front wheels and in front of and behind rear wheels, rockers (including underside) and mirrors. The whole car is really overkill.

Another thing to ask about is yellowing of the film on a white car... .

May also consider front and rear mud flaps/stone guards if a quality product ever surfaces.

Given the side profile of our cars and long doors, I also find it nearly impossible to safely park the car near another car!
