I was concerned about brightness but these covers fit within my comfort zone. I've been behind cars when they brake and you can barely tell their brakes are on. I don't have that concern with these.

Man, I wish someone would post pics at night with just the running lights on, no brakes.

Are you claiming that Chevy’s factory installed dark tail lamps are not 50 state legal?

They are standard equipment on the ZL1 1LE, Redline and Hotwheel models and are sold as accessories. I’m pretty sure the are legal and have a set on my car.

The dark tail lights are legal.
These blackouts exist in a grey area where it is doubtful you will get pulled over for having blackouts however if you are doing something you should not be doing they could use them as an excuse to pull you over or add them to the fine on your ticket. We have sold several hundred sets of blackout kits in the 15 plus years we have been in business and have not had anyone tell us that they got pulled over for having blackouts on their car.
We say they are for "off-highway use only" to cover ourselves from the finger-pointing that happens so often these days.

They are saying like all other blackouts as in overlays. The GM lights are smoked tail light assemblies, not "blackouts" or overlays that cover an assembly.

2 of these shots taken on dark street with running lights. One with camera flash on and one with flash off (Samsung 8 phone auto settings).

The street light you see past the car is about 100 yards ahead. No street lights behind the car. Additional street lights are one street over from the driver side of the car. To the passenger side of the car, the nearest streetlight is about a quarter mile away.

The last picture is taken parked directly under a streetlight no camera flash.

All pictures are taken about a car length away. There is a full moon but with 95% cloud cover in the city.

Hope that helps.
