Systems Equivalent to PDR
I ran across an opportunity that is going to have me moving out of my 18 ZL1 and into a 23 ZL1/1LE this week. The 18 has the PDR option and the 23 does not. I find the factory PDR to be convenient, but beyond that it is nothing super special. Camera resolution is actually pretty crappy. What kind of systems are you all using to get similar function as the factory PDR?

Gopro GPS module OBD module

There is one thing special about PDR that most do not know about....the PDR collects vehicle and lap data that can be viewed with Cosworth Toolbox and Pi Toolbox software. It is fantastic data that goes beyond an OBD2 dongle or specialized data collection devices.

Most people go with the Garmin catalyst which looks to be a great system for timing and video but I will second the data acquisition of the pdr. PI tool box is amazing. Video is crappy and audio is worse than that but data is great

Can you tell me more about the GPS and OBD modules? How do you get the data from the OBD module onto the video? I’ve used a GoPro with GPS before and got really crappy GPS coverage at Gingerman. I had the GoPro in the car, which might not have been the best place for it.

Another vote for Catalyst. Thought you don't get nearly as much telemetry and CAN data.

GPS module is XGPS-160 OBD module is OBDlink MX Race Chrono app on the phone sync's all data. And you can export the results as telemetry like above. GPS module is key because it gets 10hz or pings per second. GoPro only gets 1 ping a second for GPS.

I find the Garmin Catalyst truly helps WHILE you are on the track, as much as after you make a run. I can Ghost another Catalyst user's data and lap while I am on the track and see what their line is in comparison to mine. I also know at each sector if I have advanced my delta or wasted a run and should just give the car a cool-down.
Here is my run from Barber Motorsports Park last month.

Yes, the PDR video is OK, not great, but the audio can be made better. Search youtube for "PDR Microphone Mod"

You can also get a live lap time delta to your personal best and lap times displayed on screen using Harry's Lap Timer or RaceChrono (and probably other apps like Track Addict) on a phone with an external 10Hz GPS mounted on the dash which is the biggest feature the PDR system is missing IMO. The Catalyst has a lot more coaching features but PDR has more data embedded within the video that you can analyze in very great detail on a computer like others already mentioned which the Catalyst is lacking.

For quick reviews I use the Race Capture Track IMU with their software or with the Solo Storm Software. Sometimes I use it with a GoPro. But I also use the PDR when I have more time to devote to it or too lazy to set up the other things.
