Powersteering failed again. 2SS

In conclusion to my previous thread https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=528765 I had my local dealer address a power steering issue. They replaced a connector and it worked for awhile but today it failed again while I was driving.

I already have an appointment setup with Chevy for Thursday but I'm getting allittle annoyed now. What should my next steps be?

Squeaky wheel gets the grease. Keep on then until the issue is 100% resolved. Only advice I have.

Tell them to look for "Document 4769605 for loss of assist". I have the service invoice for my car right in front of me. I had the same issue just about 4 weeks ago. Here is what it says and what they did to my car. No issues so far 4 weeks later.

I don't know what document 4769605 is.

It should be noted that I had to take the car in twice for this issue. The first time they updated some software they said was out of date. Power steering went out 2 hours after I picked up the first time. This is what they did the second time.

From the invoice:

Diagnosed lack of power steering assit. Service power steering system warning is on. Checked for trouble codes, no codes. Performed SI lookup for steering problem. Found document 4769605 for loss of assit. Removed under vehicle inspection covers to access the power steering electrical connectors. Inspected the connectors for being locked in plate (I think this should be place). Removed the connector and inspected the connectors. Reconnected the connectors. Intermittent problem related to the motor. The motor is serviced as a complete unit. Installed a replacement rack and pinion assy.

They also had to reprogram the power steering control module and preformed an alignment adjusted front toe to spec.

Posted this in the first thread.

They're changing the whole rack for some reason.

Is this a common issue on the 6th gen Camaro or not? I read at one of the Corvette forums that only some '17 Stingrays developed this issue because a change of steering part during assembly.

Never had the issue with our 16. Over 20K miles on it when I traded it in.

Request another Mechanic, ask that the Master mechanic work on it or go to another dealer and show them the handy work of the first dealer.

Had exactly same issue here in UK, first software update, did nothing, then changed the whole steering rack etc, apparently the torque sensor is part of it. No issues since (about a month) except my alignment is off.

Thanks for the help. I will refer to that document and other stuff tomorrow morning when I go back. Thing I notice about dealers is usually they assume we know nothing about cars and wont take our word for it and try to fix it "their" way. I'll see what I can pull off though. Its real hard going to another dealer because unlike Atlanta, the dealers here in Austin are pretty scattered and the next closest one is way on the other side of town and I generally work monday thru friday 8 - 5 and I have no way of getting back to work without one of their shuttles as they arent loaning any vehicles... I would use my 99 but I have no way of getting it to the dealer so I can drive it when taking my car to the shop.

Cavender at Boerne TX is a great Chevy dealer shop close to you, they repaired my '14 Stingray and everything under warranty, you should try it. I was very satisfied after they repaired an overheating issue on my car. They loan me a vehicle and I live 300 miles away from them.

Soooo Chevy left me a message stating they couldn't duplicate the issue. Luckily I video recorded it when it went out clearly showing it had no power steering and sent them the video after I got this message. Im hoping they take this hassle free. I also linked them with several posts here describing the DTC codes and issue. If Chevy tosses this back at me as "could not duplicate the issue" .. What should I do? I definitely cannot have the power steering randomly failing while I'm driving. That could be considered a safety issue if it happens and I'm not expecting it while I'm in the middle of a turn or something.

Have you talked to the Service Manger or Owner of the dealership? Try that first, then I would try a different dealer, I know it is out of your way. My dealer didn't even question the problem when I brought it in. I'm assuming I wasn't the first to come in with that problem. If that doesn't work, tell them the car is not safe to drive and you will bring the issue up with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and then go file a complaint with them and send the complaint back to Chevy. In my opinion this should be a recall anyway as one time when it went out for me, I almost crashed the car as I was turning and it went out in the middle of a turn. But until someone dies, Chevy isn't going to care.

15356 – Loss Of Electric Power Steering Assist – 2007-2012 Chevrolet Pontiac Saturn
oemdtc February 10, 2016 Special Coverage Adjustment

#15356: Special Coverage Adjustment – Loss of Electric Power Steering Assist – (Aug 28, 2015)

Subject: 15356 – Special Coverage Adjustment – Loss of Electric Power Steering Assist
Models: 2007-2012 Chevrolet Malibu
2007-2010 Pontiac G6
2007-2010 Saturn AURA
Equipped with Electric Power Steering Assist (EPS)

Condition
On some 2007-2012 model year Chevrolet Malibu, Pontiac G6, and Saturn AURA vehicles equipped with electric power steering assist (EPS), the steering column torque sensor or the EPS motor/controller may cause the vehicle to suddenly lose EPS. If the vehicle loses EPS, the vehicle’s driver information center will display a warning message and a warning chime will be heard. The vehicle will revert to a manual steering mode, which requires greater driver effort to operate at low vehicle speeds.

Special Coverage Adjustment
This special coverage covers the condition described above for a period of 10 years or 150,000 miles (240,000 km), whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership.

Dealers are to replace the steering column torque sensor or EPS motor/controller based on DTC. The repairs will be made at no charge to the customer.

Well...things are getting real now. I've been without my car for a week and a half. Still patient cuz I have a second car thank God. Anyway..After showing g them the video of it abruptly failing, as well as this thread and several recorded threads of this issue on Camaro 6, they are having a GM engineer fly in directly to meet with me and look over my
car.. Could this possibly be the beginning of this issue becoming a recall?
