Transmission locked into paddle shifter mode
So I took my buddy out for a ride in the ZL1 and was showing him some of the handling capabilities. We were on the highway doing about 75 when we approached an exit jughandle. We went around the jughandle in D (sport mode) doing about 45 mph. As a result, the transmission shifter moved over to the +/- mode and locked itself till we got to a cruising speed.
I don't know if this is a performance feature or if anyone has encountered this. I tried to find it in the manual but didn't know what to look it under. A10 transmission of course.

Locked itself??
Meaning the shifter would not move back to the right or the gears wouldn't change up or down? Either way I have no idea what this is and have not experienced it. |

I think you were just in performance shift mode, it'll warn you on the dash when you enter it. To disable it just go into touring or snow/ice mode. Whenever you're in sport/track mode and floor it it'll hold the gear in a high RPM range so you're always in the power band, all you have to do is upshift to take it out.

it allowed me to shift with the paddles but the hand lever was locked in +/-. It would not move back to the right into D.

I've experienced what LuZim is talking about, but never had the shifter lock in place like your condition. I'll see if I can reproduce it tonight.

I'm just not seeing this happen. Tried several times. ~35mph around an underpass turn around.

All joking aside, did the car also change driving modes (i.e. Track)? Breaking at 75 on entering a hard turn at 45 might have caused the car to "think" it was at a track and enter a driving mode more appropriate for what you were doing - but that's me spitballing. If it did then there's gotta be a servo (or maybe hydraulic?) moving the gear selector in and out of manual shift mode. |
