TPMS showing on the wrong tire

Hello all! I have a bizarre one for you.

I got my tires replaced, and they pumped one up to 40 PSI, the TPMS showed that tire on the back left, but as it turns out it was on the front right!

It's not the end of the world, but is there a way to get the TPMS system to re-learn where it's tires are?

Thank you,
Whiskey

Take it back to the tire shop and have them relearn the TPMS system with their relearning tool.

Yup, the installer should be able to do it for you. If that's not convenient, you can pick up an El-50448 TPMS relearn tool for pretty cheap online. Takes 5-10 mins to do it yourself if you have one of those.

It's their job to set the TPMS when they sell you new tires!!!!! They have the tool to do it, unless they are shade tree bubbas.

Also 40 psi is way too high for cold pressure.

Will this car not "learn" those positions automatically? My Mustang would, no relearn was needed at all.

No, GM cars do not learn TPMS positions automatically.

I second this, its +-$20 on Amazon. Very easy procedure and good for other vehicles too. Worth it.

Thank you for the tips everyone! I was not aware that the TPMS sensors needed to be learned like this. It's great to know.

My dealer has a great deal where I get lifetime oil changes and tire rotation free when you buy the car from them. (Of course, they want to sell other services, and things like replacing the gear oil in my manual transmission or in the rear end I let them do). I am due for an oil change in 600 miles,.. I'll ask them to rotate the tires and re-learn the tpms for me.

If I ever move and start rotating the tires myself it's good to know that I can pick up the tool so cheap.

Thank you!
Whiskey

Also the cold psi set point for the Camaro SS tires is 32psi.

so when we rotate the tires from left to right side it doesn't relearn which side it's on?

I learned something new, thanks. I rotate my tires a lot, time to buy the tool.

see 2018 Owners manual page 298

Each TPMS sensor has a unique
identification code. The identification
code needs to be matched to a new
tire/wheel position after rotating the
vehicle’s tires or replacing one or
more of the TPMS sensors.
