Bingo! Or someone gave them a quote on the airbox with the attachment and they were like now we can cut 3 parts and save a nickel!

By the way, there is no plug on the underside of the air intake tube on my 2021 V6 that came without the sound tube. Instead, the plastic tube has no hole at all on the bottom. The photos below show the difference "looking up" at the intake tubing on the 2016 and 2021 V6.

Get a picture underneath... is it hole? Or a piece of plastic not knocked out

Interesting how inconsistently the sound tube is applied to 2019+ Camaros. At least I can't see a clear pattern of which cars get it and which ones don't.

I did have a closer picture, see below. A lot of scuffing (!) for a factory new part, but no apparent scoring for a hole.

As for the mystery of which cars have them and which don't, out of curiosity I was trying to see if I could figure that out from the info on the fleet order site:

https://www.gmfleetorderguide.com/NA...D=21963&type=0

I didn't come up with any direct leads there, but so far it seems to coincide with certain 2020+ models (i.e. 1SS has, but 2SS does not). The odd factor there is that the 2020+ LT1 don't appear to have sound tubes, but that car shows as a 1SS on the build sheet.

That potentially opens the delete being somehow tied to certain build dates (the money/parts theories) or a connection with other options, hence the reason I noted above that I have NPP ("sounds good enough"?) I also have the heavy duty cooling and braking package, so maybe there are components in that package that physically interfere with the sound tube that are also on the 2SS. On a similar note, I came across an engine compartment photo of a late model 1LE 3LT without a sound tube.

Have we heard from any 2020+ 1LT or 2LT owners as to whether they have a sound tube or not? That might help with the model line theory, as a 3LT build sheet lists as a 2LT.

Is this a question we might be able to get answered in the Chevy engineer forum?

Another data point for you. 2021 2SS 1LE. Built Oct 15 2021. NO sound tube.

2020 2SS - Sound tube delete from factory?

My 2020 Camaro ordered Feb 2020 but built in the spring did not come with a Sound Tube .... ordered the GM intake so it was installed at the dealer along with the Brace .. didn't ask if they removed it ..... cant see a dealer doing extra work but maybe don't know ....

2020 2SS ordered Nov 8, 2019, built Dec 16, 2019, delivered Jan 17, 2020... No sound tube... (I installed the Strut Tower Brace and GMP Cold Air Intake, but the sound tube was NOT there from the factory)...

Me neither. No pattern from what I can see as well.

I don’t think people are upset with the sound tube itself as they are with the waste of material cost, engineering cost, and time cost accumulated on the assembly line for each one of these wastes. They serve no real purpose.

Let’s say parts cost $50 per SS built 2016-19. So that’s say 70,000 total SS Camaros. X $50. That’s a cost savings of $3.5m conservatively. I know companies who give very handsome bonuses to employees for finding and calculating substantial cost savings.

There’s definitely a pattern on 2020+ cars:

LT1 & 2SS do NOT get the sound tube

1SS gets the sound tube

Say what you will but it's still not as bad as the speaker-enhanced sounds. At least it's easy to remove.

So seems like 19 is where everything is random then, because my 2SS 1LE has it.

Before 2020, all SS cars got the sound tube. The change in question started in 2020 where only 1SS gets it and 2SS & LT1 do not. At least that’s what the pattern looks like to me.
