Thanks,

I bought the pac t harness it works fine although all their labels are wrong.

I was more asking what people did with the wires at the front dash. Did you cut the factory connector off and how did you get new ends, there is like no room to work there.

Ahh I see... yes, it's a bitch to get to those.. we cut them and extended them for the install in the dash, in the doors, and in the rear quarters

Well, I have the speakers in. I have to dial in EQ and such but I did a quick setup with 90-300 in the 6x9 and 300-18k into the U2's. I didn't hook up my sub yet. They sound decent but don't seem to have quite the SPL I think I might need with the top down on the highway.

I'm planning to just fade to front and leave the rears alone. I thought I had read they play unique backup sensor noises?

Is there any way to use the center to add SPL without messing up imaging too much?

Yeah, so SPL with the top down is the rate limiting factor..

Initially I had tweeters there, running 6.5" in the door, like a typical component setup. Simple 5 channel amplifier. 75w rms split to the 6.5" and the tweeter, 75w to each rear fill, and 400 Watts to the subwoofer. I didn't like the sound, both SPL and SQ were subpar by my standards.

So I added the U2's in the dash and the tweeters in the A pillars, added an additional 4 channel amplifier. Running a quasi active three way front stage...
75watts to U2 and tweeter, 75 watts to rear fill, and bridged 4 channel 220watts to midbass in doors. I was actually kind of happy with this setup, but the subbass channel kept cutting out, first due to overheating and second due to overpowering the sub. I eventually blew the U2s, likely in my custom EQ settings.

Then I changed all of my amplifiers over to Hertz Mille Power amplifiers.
Now I am running 3 amplifiers (1 channel, 4 channel, and 5 channel):

1 channel Hertz MLP1 1000 watts to 10" JLW6 in sealed box

4 channel MLP4 in 3 channel mode:
150 watts to (tweeter + L2SE) + 500 watts to rear fill 6.5" run in Mono

5 channel MLP5 in 3 channel mode:
200 watts to each door 7.1" midbass + 380 watts to rear W3 6" subs (x 2) in custom box

I would put my SPL with the top down against any other camaro (hardtop or vert with the top up)... with this setup, SPL and SQ are perfect, loud and clean.

Yeah, not all of us have 15k for that system though

I guess I'm mostly committed now. I'll throw the door panels back on and try to dial it in a bit.

Still unsure what to do with that Center. I guess I'll leave the stock one for now.

Well, that didn't last long. I took one half hour trip on the highway yesterday with the top down. Crossed over at 350 and one of the u2's is buzzing around 1.5k.

how much power do you have running to them?

That 100W x4 amp I mentioned earlier.

channel 1&2 to u2's at 4 ohms ~100W
channel 3&4 to the 6x9's at 2 ohms ~140W

oh you sent 100 watts RMS to the U2's... eeek, yeah, even crossed over, that may be too hot for them to handle. I don't know why I read that as you sending 100watts split between the U2 and the 6 x 9.. 100 watts to the U2 is too much ..

it will be hard for you to find anything in that size that can handle that much power... your options are

replace the U2's with new ones. I have a set of brand new ones that they sent me back after warrantying the ones I blew. I am never going to use them again because of my personal SPL needs, but I can send them to you for free for the inconvenience.

If you do this, I would :

A. put the 6 x 9 and U2 on a passive crossover, and run the 100watts split to both of them.

or

B. add a tweeter, put the tweeter and U2 on a passive crossover and split the 100watts between those two, and go with a three way front stage.

Remember, I upgraded to the L2SE, which is a much better driver with more power handling, and I upgraded to a more powerful amp sending even more power, but even that power is split between the tweeter and L2SE

For you, remember I said that using more powerful amps and having headroom is ok, as long as you are running an ACTIVE setup and can attenuate that power in the tuning process using a DSP
