Here's a list of 2017 Camaro 2SS's. https://www.cars.com/shopping/result...ice_min=&makes[]=chevrolet&maximum_distance=all&mileage_max=&model s[]=chevrolet-camaro&page_size=20&sort=list_price&stock_type=use d&trims[]=chevrolet-camaro-2ss&year_max=2017&year_min=2017&zip=78660

If you look at the lowest priced ones, most of them have an accident reported on their Carfax (you can look at the free reports). I say find one that is similar to yours without an accident reported, and find another one with damage reported. I figure it should be at least a $3000-$5000 price difference. I would wait until you get an estimate first as some adjusters will lower their estimate price if they figure you're going to get them for diminished value.
How do they lower their estimate without skimping on parts / labor?

They'll skimp on parts. I know of one person recently that was offered a refurbished wheel to replace one of his that was mangled in a wreck. Your best bet is to get a Chevy dealership to give you an estimate of the damages. Then use that against what the adjuster claims.

After the repair costs have been settled, let the adjuster know that you'd like to run some figures on diminished value. You're essentially telling the adjuster know that you know that if you were to put your vehicle on the market that it won't be worth as much as it was before the accident because it now has a history of being in a wreck.

Look this over. https://www.bankrate.com/insurance/c...covered%20loss.

That sucks, man, all the more because you were basically helpless with no chance to avoid taking the hit

On a more positive note, you weren't injured, which matters the most, and the damage doesn't look super bad. Hope the unibody is fine and the big aluminum bumper bar plus the rear bumper with its plastic parts designed to crumple absorbed all the force.

Hopefully your insurance comes through all right and won't try to nickel and dime you with crappy generic parts. Back in 2019 when I had a mishap back in NJ (entirely my fault), my insurance company handled it like a dream: the body shop was basically given carte blanche, I requested OEM only wherever applicable plus I gave them the list of the exact replacement parts I wanted (Roto-Fab intake, Velossa scoop etc.), all was paid for at MSRP with no questions asked. Body shop took their time because I asked them to make it as perfect as they can, and they sure did, the car drives better than new, seriously, their brand new alignment machine did wonders. Paint color match is perfect, the only telltale sign is that the new underhood replacement parts came in clearcoated, whereas original factory parts only have base paint, no clear. I sincerely hope you'll have a similar experience.

You may indeed want to consider the diffuser that CamaroBody suggested, I have it and it looks way better than stock; fitment is good, too (the jury is out on whether or not it's functional, it probably is, but hey, for the price it's a great deal even just for the looks).

It's also out of alignment so, again, more damage there in the latch assembly I imagine.

Would like to hear the body shop estimate in the end!
$2000 here. Bumper was 765. Rear bottom fascia needed a little repair. There is a lot in the bumper as to sensors and things that take time and labor, though I had no other damage then what you see.

Then I stick with that guess of $5k!

The Deck Lid alone is $1200 (if it has to be replaced in relation to the latch I am not sure.)

With everything else you quoted he's upwards of $3000 + Labor costs. $4000-$5000 is not unrealistic.

When I go for after market parts that will replace OEM parts, for example an aftermarket rear valence, how does that typically work? Do I get the estimate first then show the body shop which rear valence I want them to use and have them order it or do I order it out or pocket and get refunded for the OEM part they would have used in its place? Or should I expect to buy that completely out of pocket (what then happens to the money the insurer would have used on the OEM part?)

I don't think there are hard and universal rules for handling this. In my case whatever component I chose got covered and installed, but don't expect to "make money" in general by trying to get reimbursed for OEM and requesting cheaper aftermarket stuff instead, that most likely won't fly.

Here's how that aftermarket diffuser looks, by the way, just to help you decide. Fitment is very good with this one (although it did require some finagling on my end, luckily I had time to mess with it).

Trunk lid did get dented alittle just to the right of the bow tie. Will that require them to replace the whole lid or do you think that can be fixed?

That can be fixed, but it's still labor and paint, likely.

When you are dealing with insurance, the opposite is mostly true. What you're trying to do is to make sure you don't lose money.
