Is it too late to jump in on the funny word play comments? I see the OP has changed his post. Not licking that at all.

Do you have a smart phone? Your every move is being tracked. Do you realize that every web site you visit or web search you do is being recorded and tracked? Every time you go out in public anywhere you are being photograhed and recorded on video almost all the time. We are all under surveilance BIG TIME.

And you're worried about OnStar?

I was a bar tender through college and had a customer purchase a new Z71. He always drank way too much, normally came in drunk, and always got cutoff. One day he pulls up when I'm getting to work and he's in a rental car. I ask where his truck is and he admits to running it off the road drunk. End up OnStar detected an accident and he got a DUI after he hit a tree. Pretty funny, but something to always remember.

Well it could lead to:

- automated speeding tickets
- automated parking tickets
- automated tolls
- fuel usage tax
- driving habit monitoring for life insurance, health insurance, car insurance
- active control of car, such as forcing stability control, throttle limits, speed governors, total takeover if in a Google car
- engine tamper monitoring

As Google cars and so forth become more commonplace a lot of these things will become assumed. Think of a day when unassisted driving is "licensed" and "allowed under certain conditions only". This I worry about for the grandkids, not me. At present, I just wonder how OnStar is handling track days.

I'm going to disable and uninstall my onstar module

not because I'm scared they'll track me and turn off my car when I'm in the middle of a high speed chase, but because I can sell the module for $100 to $150 (;

just wait until we get automated tickets from our cars, and when our engine lights turn out we'll be issued a failed smog.

If only we lived in a world like that...Information is worth big bucks now days and no way is OnStar going to stop collecting and selling your information.

Which is why I disabled "Crash Alert" on the last car I got and it came in handy. I just called the tow truck and avoided the standard interrogation, searches, witness reports, tickets and field tests that accompany accidents involving young males in fast car's.

The irony is complaining about being concerned about privacy while posting on the Internet.
