Oil life at 11% changed 3,800 miles & 7 months ago
Seems too soon to change. Wondering if they didn’t reset it to 100% at last change. Think I’ll get it changed.Thoughts anyone?

Sounds right as the time since your last change is factored in, in addition to mileage.
On my Vette, I would change oil in October just prior to winter hibernation and when I started driving it in springtime it was down to 33% life left

Agreed, sounds right, time and mileage will run it down quicker.

Probably did not reset the oil life monitor.
I put on 7500 mi/yr. My OLM routinely drops 2% per week, as it expires strictly based on time every February. 7 mo x 4 wk/mo x 2% = 56% You should be at about 44% oil life remaining. Ignore it and change at the 1 yr mark. Or reset now and change when it gets to 56%. |

Your car has sensors to detect various things about the quality of the oil.
Guess-o-meter if you want, but in general what the car tells you most of the time is correct. 3800 miles is not a lot but 7 months on the same oil is a lot. I change my oil 3 times per year. But I also drive 300 miles / week at minimum.

As long as you reset it when you changed your oil, its probably correct. The oil life meter in these cars is better than most, and take in several factors. If you have pushed the car hard in the past 3,800 miles, or done any races/track days, its good to change it.
If you really feel like its early, or you didn't reset it on the last change, you can go 5k miles or 1 year as long as you haven't really pushed the car.

I like to follow it, it's rather sophisticated in what it does but life showing 0 isn't true, either. My girls Jeep Wrangler OLM seems to last forever and she drives her V6 Jeep like a race car most days. It's quirky. I do about 11-12miles per year and I pretty much follow the OLM like I said but basically I oil change in the spring and again in the fall, when I swap winter and summer tires.

it will go from 100% to 0 in 12 months alone, so that sounds right.

Depends also on driving habits? Temperature and such

Chevrolet performance vehicles take into account various driving factors for oil life monitoring. These factors are used to determine when an oil change is necessary to maintain optimal engine performance and protect the engine components. Some of the driving factors considered by Chevrolet performance vehicles for oil life monitoring include:
1. Engine Load: The amount of load placed on the engine, such as towing heavy loads or driving uphill, affects the oil's degradation rate. Higher engine load can lead to increased heat and stress on the oil, requiring more frequent oil changes. 2. Engine RPM: The revolutions per minute (RPM) at which the engine operates also impacts oil life. Higher RPMs generate more heat and can accelerate oil breakdown, leading to a shorter oil change interval. 3. Temperature Conditions: Extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, can affect oil performance. Cold starts and harsh operating conditions in hot climates can contribute to oil degradation, prompting the need for more frequent oil changes. 4. Idle Time: Excessive idling can negatively impact oil life. Prolonged periods of idling without sufficient engine load can result in fuel dilution, moisture accumulation, and reduced oil effectiveness. 5. Mileage: The distance traveled by the vehicle is a significant factor in determining oil change intervals. Accumulated mileage gradually leads to oil degradation due to contaminants, heat, and engine wear particles. 6. Driving Style: Aggressive driving habits, such as frequent hard acceleration or abrupt braking, can accelerate oil degradation. Smooth and consistent driving practices can help extend the life of the oil. 7. Maintenance History: The vehicle's maintenance history, including previous oil change intervals, is also considered. Regular oil changes based on recommended intervals help maintain engine performance and longevity. Chevrolet performance vehicles utilize advanced oil life monitoring systems that take into account these driving factors and analyze them through various sensors and algorithms. This approach allows the vehicle to provide accurate and personalized oil change recommendations based on individual driving conditions, optimizing engine performance and protecting critical engine components.

Not sure keep_hope was around when I previously posted this.
