PPF - main areas of concern
Happy Monday, Y'all.
So after nearly 5 months of waiting, I rescinded my 1SS build at the 3 dealerships I was working with. Found a new Sharkskin Metallic LT1 at a very good price that I snatched up. I was was please surprised by the looks of the LT1 in person. Anyway I pick her up tomorrow afternoon. My question is about PPF. I will be honest, the boss (a.k.a. wife) won't be down with me spending thousands on a complete PPF but I am sure she will be okay with doing the main parts that are prone to rock chips, especially since allot of my commuting with be on the interstate. Outside the front bumper and front fenders, what are the other major areas to keep in mind? I do plan on wrapping the hood black and not sure if that adds any real protection over PPF. Just want to try to invest this investment the best I can, without going too crazy. The help is appreciated. |

IN front of the rear tires and between the door is where the most road rash is, from that body line down.

Front bumper, and the rear area in front of the rear tires, I would 100% buy some rock guards as those will definitely help reducing the amount of kick up and hitting that panel. Side skirts also help, you can find some decently priced ones for a few hundred dollars.
There are kits you can buy that are pre-cut and you can do that area in front of the rear tires on your own if you like to DIY. I got front bumper, matte PPF on the 1le black hood wrap, A-pillars, entire roof, lower rocker panel, including the area in front of back tires, door handle cups, mirror caps. It was $2400 and it includes a 5 year warranty and they perfected the paint before applying the PPF with polishing. Also, this decision will depend on what your intentions are with the car, do you see yourself keeping the car longer than 3 or 5 years? Then PPF is a small charge to keep the paint looking good for the foreseeable future. If you think 3 or so years and you might trade it, then PPF would be a waste of money in my opinion. If you are particular about your car and want it looking MINT, then get the PPF 100%. If this is your daily, you want a fun car to blast through mountain roads, then just enjoy it, get some rock guards, PPF on the part in front of the rear tires and just accept that the bumper is going to get blasted. Maybe in 5 or so years, just get the front bumper re-sprayed and paint matched.

PPF - main areas of concern
If you don’t want full PPF I’d go with full frontal. It should include everything from the door forward(hood, quarter panels, bumper, lights, etc) and should also include the mirrors. Rock guards are also a must front and rear.

I recommend PPF on the front of the car and the side mirrors, rock guards (and side skirts if you want the extra protection) and if you don't go with side skirts PPF in front of and behind the rear wheels.

Wow, sorry for all the errors in my first message. At work hurrying the message.
All your input falls in line with what I was thinking, so I appreciate the help. I am going to make an appointment with the detail shop in the next 4-5 weeks as it warms up and see what they'll do it for. I do plan on keeping the car long term and I am very compulsive about keeping my cars clean so this is worth it 110%!!! Just excited that I will actually be a Camaro owner in the forum, rather than an onlooker. |

You can do the basic PPF
You can do the rockers and behind the rear wheels yourself if you have patience, a heat gun and not afraid to throw away some plastic to learn. The worst thing that can happen is you trash $38. The front is a challenge and I recommend a kit. Throwing that away will hurt so you might get a pro for that. I have done 4 complete cars and started with the rockers. Watch some YouTube and message me if you need some help.
https://www.amazon.com/3M-Scotchgard...s%2C108&sr=8-4 3M pro is easier than the standard 3M but for what you will be doing this is fine. Again, it will come off with heat. Xpel is easier than 3M but harder to get without being a dealer. |

I’d like to piggyback instead of starting a new thread….
Can I use a precut 2023 SS kit on a 2020 2SS 1LE? The front spoiler I’m not concerned of total coverage (I’ll massage it for maximum coverage). But I’m curious about the following… Hood, fender fronts, headlights, bumper, mainly 85% of the front fascia. I’m not aware of any changes from 2020 to 2023, but I just found out that 2020 was the only year a 2SS didn’t have wireless charging. |
