Ziptie Exhaust Butterfly Valves
Read somewhere that ziptying these open might have some performance and sound improvement but cannot find anything.
Could someone tell me the pros and cons of ziptying the exhaust butterfly valves open?

I thought they helped when in v4 mode. If you have v4 deactivated wouldn't matter.

They're mechanical so you can manually push the springs in. From what I read it uses some pressure to apply the springs open causing the exhaust to work a little harder to exhale. On the freeway you can hear the rattle of the valve as it gets up to speed even though I have afm tuned out.
My clamps arrive tomorrow so I'm curious what if any impact it will have

Mine is a manual trans. If I had an auto with afm delete I would keep them open.

I used muffler clamps and large washers to keep the valves open because the valves rattled on idle and I wasn't impressed to hear that sound coming off from a new car.
I immediately noticed an improved performance sound on startup from the exhaust system. I have not experienced any issues after opening the valves. |

I went ahead and bought clamps to make it a more permanent solution than high temp zipties. Installed last night but wasn't able to turn it on since the baby was sleeping. When I get home this afternoon I'll finally be able to drive the car. I'm excited to hear how it sounds.

Are these vales the ones causing the metallic resonance noise on a cold start by any chance? I noticed that on my car and have been wondering about that.

Likely. I undid the zipties on mine and had them welded for $40 at a local muffler shop (guy drove the car on the lift. Lifted it. Welded a few spots, and was done in minutes). Haven't heard that rattle in several months since doing this

I wonder if that affects the ECU or anything else. I heard they are from the 4cilinder system but don't know much about them. I've seen people welding, people cutting them off, but I could not find much information on the consequences of getting them "stuck" or out.

There's no sensors on it. From my understanding, it's to make the four cylinder sound less droning. I have afm delete so I'm always in V6 so it doesn't apply. It's essentially a restriction since the valves use the exhaust pressure to push them open

Nice! I noticed the rattle right away when I bought my camaro, but luckily the noise goes away once the car is warm. Now that I know nothing will be affected, I will probably weld them once I install my axle back then.

The v8’s are an electronic actuator, same part that is used for NPP. That’s how they check if they’re working is when they’re unplugged they throw a code.
But for v6 it’s not monitored and usually will rattle over time. I had not these rattle and my resonator rattle. Had both replaced with just regular pipes and a X-Pipe
