There are still tens of thousands who buy cars that don't know a new Camaro even exists.
It is the best kept secret in the entire lower case gm lineup. BUT, in fairness there are a great number of foreign owned companies who sell cars in the USA that I am oblivious to as well. If there isn't a moniker on them I have zero idea what they are because the majority of them don't command a second glance. I don't think the Camaro is a bad looking car, it's just that the lower level Camaro is basically an also ran in appearance. Lower case gm could have easily given the car some nicer exterior trim. Their sales tactics of "Packaging" would cause me to pass on by on certain Camaro models. If I want a car with rally stripes on the hood vs an all black hood I should be able to order the damned thing that way.

I recall a Z/28 for the 6thGen was a non-issue after the ZL1-1LE came out. Remember all the camo-spyshot-videos from the 'Ring back then? If they didn't build, or call it a Z/28 then, I don't see them doing it now.
The ZL1 1LE filled the bill for an all out track car, wouldn't have been a surprise if they had called it Z/28, and made a new Camaro called a Z/28 rather unnecessary. Just my $.02. |

Another reason people want the Z28 is because of how damn good the LS7 was, LT1 and LT4 are amazing, but add an hypothetical LT7 for the Gen 6 Z28 and suddenly you have an extra special model that will appreciate over time since it'll be so limited.

The existence of the GT2RS didn’t stop the GT3RS. The ZL1 1LE should have no bearing on the Z/28. My guess is they knew a Z/28 wasn’t realistic, so the ZLE was the next best thing. In all likelihood, the obesity of the C7 made a naturally aspirated, AFM, automatic friendly n/a engine a tall order. Especially one limited to the lower RPM range of a cam in block V8. That rolled down to the Z/28 not having an engine.

The LT2 has GM as the casting mark. I have seen no motors with a lower case.
