Stay away from Chemical guys. 98% of their stuff is garbage.
I have been doing this for almost 18years. Post some pics of the spots that are worrying you.

Stick with brands that make quality stuff
Optimum, Rupes, DIY Detail, 3D,Sonax

Not great pictures but with a flashlight under cover you can see how widespread they are.

those look like they etched in some but should clean up. its going to take some effort but also in the same time you will be removing all the swirls in the paint as well.

Do you have a proper DA polisher. I recommend a 15mm throw. Will cut faster and get the job done quicker.
You dont need to spend big bucks a cordered $100 from SPTA on amazon will do the job. No need to pay for a new like Rupes.

https://www.amazon.com/Platypus-Poli...0-4513d670b6bc

you can try the pads it comes with but they are usually garbage

Get some quality pads.

I like the DIY detail stuff. I have done 5 cars with it in the past few months
The yellow pad is a great All in one and has decent amount of cut so would want to see if that does the job. If not you would want to get the wool pad for heavy defect removal.

The gold standard polish is pad dependent so it will vary the cut on the type of pad.

https://diydetail.com/collections/bu...int-correction

if you were local I would show you how to take care of these quickly. If you did all the water spot product on them. thats good they wont get worse and can clean the paint now. Its just removing the scarring left behind.

Just take it to a good detail shop and spend the coin for a level 1 paint correction and ceramic coat while it’s there. My 2c.

I have a Porter Cable orbital polisher and used the White pad set on 3 and used menzerna Final polish (from car body shop) that was suppose to remove swirls and inperfections for dark colors? It didn't work.

I would love to get ceramic coating but finances in this Biden economy won't allow that at this time.

Ceramic coating doesn't protect against water spots, in fact, it can make them worse to deal with, so there's that (it should make you feel a bit better, too).

Good luck with the job; however, in all honesty, I'd also suggest that you give the car to a professional detailer, every single mistake you might make will be glaringly obvious on black paint. I see several scratches along with the water spots in your pictures.

white pad is a light polishing pad and a final polish wont have enough cut. If you want to keep menzerna line they make good stuff you will need to step up to menzerna 2400 to give alot more cut. with a porter cable in the small 8mm throw you need to run it at speed 6 at anything lower they are useless. speed 3 is for applying a wax

after the cutting with the heavier compound you will then use final polish to remove the micromarring caused by heavier compounds.

no need to take it to anyone and pay for this if you already have a machine to start with. Just watch some youtube videos and just take your time. Its not hard and dont let anyone make you think that. Detail shops want you to be afraid of it so they can overcharge you

Your car isn’t ruined. Any professional detailer can take care of your issue. That being said I went through the same thing. Water spot remover doesn’t work at all. I bought a da and prior to getting the car ready to compound I was able to get most of the water spots out using a clay bar. I strongly suggest starting with that (after washing and drying the car). If you’re not satisfied with how it looks either compound and polish it yourself using a da, or take it to a pro. Also for the water spots on the glass I have had great success with glass cleaner. When that wasn’t enough I used steel wool grade 0000. That will get the water spots on the glass out for sure. Just make sure the glass is lubricated. Make sure you don’t leave any steel wool bits on the car.

Water spot remover wont remove water spots that have already etched in. They really shouldnt be called that. Optimum actually named it right as mineral deposit remover. Once the paint is etched the water spot remover wont do anything to the appearance. It is removing the minerals out of the water spot so it doesnt cause more damage. If you polish a water spot without removing the minerals. The spot will magically come back in a few weeks because you drove them into the clear further and when they bake in the sun it will etch even more.
Claying also will not remove water spots unless they are fresh and not have etched into the paint at all. Water spot remover is needed and then you polish them out and they will be gone forever.

I got it pretty good today with the DA, multiple pads and the swirl remover and final polish. Will check it again tomorrow to see. Are you recommending that I go over everything with the water spot remover before waxing then?

I think I got it?

Went over entire car with the Windex and then 2 more rounds with the buffer and mild polish and turned the speed up to 6 and that seemed to get them. Followed by wax and then spray polish.

I cannot see any water spots in the reflections and hopefully they don't come back!
