Loud Ticking engine - outside an inside the Car

Hello everyone,

I've just received my car in my country and unfortunately there is a ticking sound located IMO to the right of the LT4 motor ...
At the outside When the car is parked the sound is very audible and he is sync with the rpm
From the inside it is less audible but when the stereo system is off you heard the sound coming from the engine bay.
The sound looks to a metallic one and it is present all the times (cold and hot)
As you can see in the attached pic all the levels are normals... well i think so

My Zl1 was built in 2018 and have around 12000 miles...

I don't know how i could attached a video ..

Thanks for the help

Best
Olivier

P.s: the units of the video are in metrics

Upload a video to Youtube and post the link here. Also, some ticking is normal due to the Direct Injection, but not sure what you are referring to exactly.

It definitely sounds like something is wrong. And the throttle sounds sluggish. Are there any codes?

This is why I hesitate to buy used cars. Especially from far away. I'd be willing to bet someone had a little fun with it before it was sent to you. I'd send it right back and and walk away from it. Because this might just be the start of a lot of issues.

Yes i know but Zl1 is not sell in France and the only way to get one is to buy from US.
This is not my first car and i start really to think it is a rubbish car !!
I buy the Zl1 at mercedes benz of Tysons corner near to Washington and seller tells me that everything is in perfect state but for real he tells me bullshits ! The 4 tires were down - exterior paint is not perfect - and now this noisy sound !!! For real i’m absolutely disgusted !! I don’t know if all the mercedes benz dealer in US are like this one but in Europe this is not the same thing. It is a premium make and they could not sell cars in the same state of mine !
And for add the car will cost me price X2 which i pay at the dealer with all of taxes in my country. Pay 90000$ for a rubbish car .. it makes the more expensive dustbin ever seen before !! :(
Well if you have any other ideas thanks in advance

Any Chevrolet dealers in France you could take the car to?
Sounds like something is wrong. Sounds like it’s down a cylinder.

It sounds quite a lot like the collapsed lifter that cgocifer had:

No Scottyz GM has lef entire Europe in early 2016. In France there are only 1 or 2 independant dealer wich know GM cars but not especially the Zl1.. and they are more expensive than german premium brands
we haven’t american brand car here except 3 or 4 at the maximum (Ford and Jeep .. but in fact not the best one IMO (and ford doesn’t sale the GT350 or Gt500 in Europe only the V8 GT or 4 cylinders )
Wooow i hope so it is not a down cylinder holy shit it might cost a hand no ???

Gunkk maybe you right mine noisy sound looks like cgoccifer’s camaro
Apparently lifter is not expensive but it is very hard to change it ? How cost is it did you think ?

Thanks

If Gunk is right and the lifter is the problem then that would explain why it is down a cylinder. As for cost I really don’t know.

Is there any mechanic where you are that you could take the car to that knows American V8 engines or has experience working with V8s?

That is my feeling scottyz
I have the impress that the car works on 7 cylinders .. but no lights were on during about 400 miles.. unfortunately i haven’t Obd2 tools to check if there is a fault code recorded

You’re right Lt4Greg there is only one american mechanic specialist near my city but i am afraid that they never seen an LT4 before
I will call them tomorrow morning cause they are closed today and i wanted to know the point of view of this forum before to meet the mechanical specialist

And what is you opinion about the spark plug failure and fuel check valve failure ?
And the worst of the case the oil pump failure ? But the oil pressure looks ok

Very strange that a code has not been thrown. If it's down a jug, it would push a misfire code or a too rich code (unburnt fuel).

Wonder if it could be the fuel(gasoline) that you are running in the car? The LT4 is designed to run on 93 octane and maybe the fuel that you are using is not rated that high. Idk just throwing it out there trying to help!

If it is a lifter... may be a good time to upgrade all the lifters, and since you don't have a warranty also get it tuned? If money is not an issue, I would consider a cam kit since you can get it with new lifters. In the US, that is a $4-6 thousand job with the parts.
