GM Patents Clutch By Wire

A new patent from GM could mean your next clutch pedal is a digital one.

Ford has a transmission in it's Focus(probably others too) that has a clutch disk, and is shifted by actuators. I have seen the guys across the shop changing the clutch and actuators quite regularly. Ford treats it like an automatic in that you select drive just like an automatic and it does the rest. An automatic clutch with a manual shift pattern and lever would be a lot more fun if the kinks can be worked out.

The original Ferrari F1 (F1 meaning 575 Maranello, 360 Modena, etc) transmissions were this style - electric/hydraulic clutch setup with paddle shifters or full automatic mode.
