FRUSTRATED BEYOND BELIEF

Owner of a beautiful Black 2013 SS w/Performance Package.....only owned it 5-months now and it has 5,700 miles. Been in shop 6-7 times for a smell that smells like oil burning if you are holding the clutch in for 20 seconds or so.....The dealership that is working on the car said it was the rear main seal so they replaced that. Took the car back again for the same thing, it has been in the shop now over 2 weeks and they have replaced the entire clutch etc......well in a test drive they are now reporting a noise they suspect is from the trans....Last conversation with my service advisor was Friday when she said the car has been classified to a Tier 2 which means a engineer will be called out. Anyone else heard of such a thing?

My stock clutch was horrible. No burning smell, but there was a subtle vibration when engaging the clutch. Also the front of the trans was leaking. Upgraded to a new clutch at the time they replaced the seal on the front of the trans. The leak stopped. It was a pain always checking the car after a drive for any drips around the Transmission, and on a car that only had a few hundred miles. Not good.

Man I know what your going through! This wreaks of a dealership that is just guessing at this point. I had a 2006 Silverado, and with 540 miles my trans went out, and the dealer could not pin point where the problem was coming from. They finally found it was indeed the trans, they called a tier 2 engineer in and figured it out. BS part of the story was that I had to settle for a "certified rebuilt" trans WITH 540
MILES , so hopefully this does not happen to you. Wish you all the best!

There's always a car that slips through where something doesn't hold up as it should. Show me a car manufacturer that has absolutely zero defects and I would be shocked. I know none of us like to have a situation like that but it is a fact of life. People make mistakes and in turn nothing is perfect. Just get it fixed and move on.

Yup, I've heard of such a thing, for just about all makes of cars. Doesn't make your problem any easier or mean that GM shouldn't take care of you right though.

I had a problem like this with a hard drive... I purchased a hard drive from newegg... The day I got it / installed ... was bad.. had to wait two more weeks for a new one... Ever try running a computer with out a hard drive... (haha).
I hope your issues with the car get fixed properly. Hope from here on out things go better also.

My 2010 SS has been just fine. TThe clutch feels like new @ 22K miles. No leaks of any kind.

I know what you mean when you say you are frustrated, wow how can they hold your car so long? I would have started calling around for a different dealer if someone was holding my car so long....but that's just me.

Russ, GM won't allow me to take the car to another dealer since this dealer has done work on it. I called the dealer in California where I got the car and they wanted us to bring it there but GM wouldn't let us. I have to get the car back first and then request to take it to Calif if I have further issue, it has just been one thing after another....waiting for the engineer to come out now...

Just curious; why would you hold the clutch 20sec? You should be in neutral after 3-4sec..

But its normal LOL

GM won't "let you"? You're supposed to be able to have it serviced at the GM service center of your choice. All of them service your car

Something funky with the release ("throw-out") bearing? It would certainly start to get hot after 20 sec and probably has minimal factory grease. I had a vehicle (ok, a Ford) that I NEVER left the clutch depressed for very long. It burned up the main drive gear from lack of lube in the tranny...long story...

Hang in there, if they're willing to work with you, they'll find it. It does suck to be without your car though.

because the dealer has already charged GM for the repairs (even though it goes back time after time for the same thing) GM will not authorize another dealer working on the car until this dealer says its fixed and then I can request to take the car to the dealer where I purchased it from in Calif......I'm at a loss so it's a wait and see....
