2014 Camaro ZL1 Borla ATAK exhaust making motor/engine noise

Hey Guys,

So i just got a Borla ATAK exhaust for my Camaro ZL1 (2014) and got it installed. Then it wasn't sounding that great, so the guy at the shop told me that they can cut or something about X-pipe so that it will sound better. After that, the car sounds fine till 1500 or 2000 RPM and once i go over that the car kind of sounds motor'y or seems like the sound is coming from the engine rather than from the exhaust pipes. I am taking it to the same shop in a couple of days but wanted to check here before going.

Also, since the exhaust is new, i kind of feel a burning smell as well during driving or when i am revving.

Thanks in advance

Forever ZL1

Thank you guys. I will let the guy at the shop take a look ... The guys at the shop never worked on a camaro zl1 before, so not sure when i ordered the part with him on the phone, if he had ordered a different exhaust system may not be compatible with the Zl1 or may be a older or a newer year camaro zl1.

You didn't answer the question: stock manifolds?

Yes.Stock manifolds. All i baought and got installed was the exhaust. Everything is stock.

Also, the guy at the shop was saying the headers for the zl1 will make more aggressive sound.

But for Camaro zl1 with headers and installation i am again looking around 2500 dollars, Thats what he said since it requires a lot of work ...

Till now i spent close to 5000 along with the headers if i buy it and for the exhaust. AM i overpaying or is it the right price ? along with the parts and installations ...

2500 for installed headers is waaay too much. You can pick up a set of headers, gaskets and bolts for $300-$1000. Installation ought to be $500-$800.

Burning smell is probably oil being burnt of from new pipes. Had it on three or four sets of exhaust pipes before, making noise? rattle, probably didnt bolt on right and loose bolts, also if its 3" pipe you cant use the exhaust tunnel bracer at all, mine is completely off, pipes will rattle like crazy. You can try find aftermarket, i just left mine off.

So, Oil, Tunnel brace, and loose bolt on probably, tell him look at it again. or do it yourself, not rocket science.

No tunnel brace , when its being and after installed as you see, probably the culprit or more idk. Just how my looks.

Weld up the exhauast everywhere but where it attatches to the stock pieces...

Doing headers is easy as pie... i would skip it for now...

For what its worth I run my stock cat back LTs and OR Pipes, use a control mod to keep flaps closed in town... Forza 3 Way

Not really an option now for you

I had an xpipe installed in the stock cat back

Please don't pay 5,000 for them to install headers.

i mean, 1800 for the borla, then another 400 for the install ... then i see the headers are close to a 1000 and then the install the guy is telling its about 1200 to 1400 since its a zl1 and the work is complex ...

And i live in California, and he says he needs to find the right headers that are California legal. Can someone recommend me some headers that are California legal and sound mean ?

There are plenty of vendors here who will work on price with you... I got the headers and stainless works exhaust all for like 1600$ , shipped to my door, and then had tune and install with other various items at a great shop.
